Angry Need Computer help w/ "Client Services for Netware" thingie

    Yeh,
We went away this weekend and I left my laptop in the hands of an unamed person. I come home to find out all ain't what it should be. I'm not sure how it happened but when I turn my laptop on, the logon box now comes up that prompts for a username. If I go into the user Accounts to try to remove this from showing up (it never used to) then I get this screen:

I did a little searching and found a few articles on how to remove this from the network connections property lists (which i did) It doesn't make any difference. I still do not have access to my user accounts.

    I also found this:
Client Services for NetWare Does Not Run Logon Script After Initial Boot
But I don't want to mess with the registry if it won't solve the problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, and Yes i've learned my lesson. From now on the laptop gets locked up when Tracy and I go away.

    That sucks Carlo.

Was this person trying to gain remote access to your system, or use your notebook for file-sharing?

I don't know of any legitimate reason for someone installing this without your knowlege or permission, it was probably downloaded as a piggyback on something else they weren't supposed to be doing either.

Anyway, I had this saved in my email from when I looked it up for someone else last spring. Maybe it'll help you too.

How to uninstall "client services for netware" ion windows xp professional.

I'll assume Tod's info didn't help. Can you check
"Add / remove programs" , "Add remove windows Components"
scroll down and check both: "networking services", and "other network file and print services"
If the Netware client shows up there, just un check to remove it.

    Let me know.

Found this Microsoft Knowledge Base article (MSKB) that may help Carlo.

Error Message When You Try to Turn On Welcome Screen or Fast User Switching

You may need to go into each network connection that you have, not just your default "local area connection".

    Thanks Tod,
I tried that this morning and it didn't help. The issue arose because the "unnamed person" could not access the internet, then went looking for a reason. Totally harmless, and again, my fault for leaving the laptop for them to use.

    It's because I'm a Hardware Nerd isn't it?

I like the way the MSKB article describes the process better than the email I sent.

I just don't know enough about Novell stuff, other than lots of folks like to use it as a hack for filesharing.

    Thanks Brent.
