Exclamation Can anyone confirm this?

I heard this morning on talk radio with Glenn Beck that Hasbro has recreated an international version of the GI Joe doll. Supposedly GI JOE now stands for Global Integrated Joint Operating Entity! Now GI Joe isn't a Marine. He's supposedly a soldier of the U.N.! I did a search at Drudge and Hasbro but didn't find anything. If Hasbro has indeed done this to the doll depicting a real hero this is a huge slap in the face of all Americans! Someone please help me to confirm or deny this.

It has to do with the movie not being marketable overseas if he is "American military" pretty damn shameful if you ask me.

It the character wasn't marketable, then they should have used/invented another one.

G.I. Joe is an American Icon, and shouldn't be compromised like this. IMHO
Just makes Hasbro look like all it cares about is a quick buck.

But the question begs to be asked.

Do they have dolls dressed up as terrorists that they sell in the Middle East? No, I'm not joking, just trying to parallel two different worlds

That may make it more marketable to the rest of the world, but I certainly won't spend my money to see it.

I didn't mean it as a putdown. Every nation has their heroes, I'm just kind of wondering if they play Army in the Mideast, like we did growing up, and what they use to play with.

I could go on with this, but I think I've dug a big enough hole!

Whatever the name, the toy is still made in bY Chinese factory workers in China. So loyalty to some ficticous toy soldier makes no sense anyways.

Patriotism and loyalty to Country exists inside a person really anyways.

Yeah they play army but with real guns. If you google child soldier pics you can find a ton of them from the middle east. They indoctrinate them from a very early age to fight for Allah and die.

My sisters Barbies got burned or had model rocket engines wired to them like jet packs, I wasn't allowed to have GI Joes as a kid, I have no idea why especially since I was given an air rifle and hunting pellets at a pretty young age that could shoot through plywood and sheet metal, makes no sense.

As for U.N. Joe why cant they just call him something else like U.N. Ben or something?

Because they don't think all the mid 20's to mid 30's Americans will go to the theater for the sake of nostalgia over UN Ben.

If they did it really wouldn't be a big deal at all. As I understand the doll is based on and bears the likeness of a real marine war hero. I'll not buy anything from Hasbro for anyone now.

Makes sense that they make a UN doll, both are weak & useless!
