    Default Winter Project

Any of you folks out there into woodworking? If so, you might appreciate my new computer desk I just finished. It's my first real attempt at something like this and overall it turned out pretty good. It's not anything really great, and someone with skills could see all kinds of mistakes, but for my first time, I'm pleased with the outcome. The only thing I would really do differently would be the design. I'd cut back the upper section so that the sides and top matched the middle shelf depth, leaving the desk area the same.

For those with real woodworking skills, my hat is off to you. It takes a TON of patience and time to do these type of things "right"!

    Good job, Dave!

That's the fun of doing it yourself and building it to the specs you needed. There's one under your belt!

Hey, didn't I see that in a catalog?!?
Nah, I'm kidding!! The desk is actually nice.

I haven't done any woodcrafting since 8th grade shop class and don't to touch another chisel and mallet for looonnnngg time.

You have a potential side job so that some of us can catch up to you in posting .

Dave, it looks really good from here! Pat yourself on the back…

What will you make for your next project? (The lexan windscreen doesn't count…)

Good work Dave. I agree that something done with your own two hands (and power tools) is more appreciated than something store bought.

Thanks all. it was definitely a job, that's for sure! The wood is 3/4 plywood with a birch veneer, and I got some birch stock for all the trim work. Minwax cherry stain and a semi-gloss poly finish. I figure I have about $225 in it not counting my time. I wouldn't have been able to do this without some of the special tools and guidance from my neighbor. He's a great guy except that he rides a yamaha. But I still talk to him!

No doubt he's thinking that about you for riding a Kawasaki.

Hey...so far the lowers turned out really good. I have the screen drawn out and will be cutting and sanding tonight. I'm also going to get some black paint and fix up the rust on the mounting brackets. Should be good for another 6 years!

There won't be any more woodworking projects for a LONG time!!!!!! it takes a LOT of patience!

Well done on the desk. For $225, it is not bad at all.
