As you can see from my avatar, I have been a MOPAR fan since before they were "cool". That Challenger...well I'm glad I have only a few more payments left on the Rumblebee. I am drooling!

These are pics and vids of the new Dodge Challenger w/ the FACTORY drag race package.
You can buy THIS from your friendly Dodge dealer!

Just crazy that you can purchase this car from the dealer!
What a day, definitely exciting seeing something like this unveiled.
Hope you enjoy them…

"Before they were cool"? I see a late model pickup truck in your avatar, and after peeking at your profile, many folks would note that Mopars were cool long before you were born.

Great looking car! That dealership is near my house!

I saw a black Challenger last weekend on one of my rides, looks great.

I am slightly disappointed in no standard shift, and using the "standard" SRT8 motor, but great looking car.

I have a Dodge Charger SRT8, as I need the 4 doors... At MIR when I had 1500 miles on the car, I was running a pretty consistent 12.8-9 with 1.9 60' times. I have done some mods, so all things equal I might get another .3 or .4 with what I have done. Would be interested to see how the Challenger compares. From what I have read, it isn't that much faster than my car.... that makes me sad...

They didn't post time or speed.
The PA announcer laughed and said, "If you want to find out what they run, you'll have to buy one."

I forget that one of the differences between the Southeast and Western parts of our great nation is that Dodges of any form were not very popular here in the South until the black Charger showed up in "The Fast and the Furious".

I was teased regularly in high school because I drove a solid black '79 Dodge Ramcharger 4x4. It wasnt a bow-tie or a blue oval so it was "different" and "junk". UNTIL I got calls after school from friends who would take their trucks and get them stuck in the woods and need me to come pull them out. Then it was all different.

What really got my attention when I first visited the Western half of the U.S.? Not the Grand Canyon. Not the Wasatch Mountains in Utah but the abundance of sharp Dodge products rolling down the roads.

That is a sweet car.

And since I've always been a fan of King Richard it's extra sweet.

All ya gotta do is reskin a Neon, and everybody wants in! Actually, I was at a big car show in town last month, and there was some kind of PT Cruiser club there. No lie, there had to be almost 30 gussied up PTs all parked in a line. What a frightfest.

Not stock.
The Challenger has an optional "Drag race package".
Although since you can purchase it from Dodge with the package, I suppose it could be considered stock.
But no, it's definitely not your baseline Charger.

Just to explain the significance of these "package" factory built race cars, you must know their history. In the 60s, auto makers sold factory built, lightweight drag race cars. These cars would have the hottest available powerplants, no sealer, no sound deadener, lightweight body components, the deletion of all creature comforts and were not intended for street use....strictly drag racing. Production figures were usually 100 or less. Now any factory built lightweight is worth a mint. It just makes me wonder how many of the "package" Challengers will end up in collectors hands. Here's my Dads lightweight 427 Fairlane when it was new.
