I wear a wrist-watch religously too.....I've got the tan/white spot to prove it I have a Citizen Eco-drive........so I am all correct.........think of it as the Prius of wrist-watches.

Don't overlook the entertainment value of telling a recent college grad to turn a fastener "clockwise".

I haven't worn a watch in years - so why is it still on TOP of my nightstand?

Yes, my cellphone caused the de-watching. But, I don't use it much - my wife and I use el-cheap-o pay-as-you-go cellphones (no camera, no internet, no whatelse?), pay less than a hundred bucks/year each. My daughter HATES cellphones, although it seems everybody at her school is on them constantly. Someone bought her a RAZR a while ago, she gave it back.

every day. all those who rely on their cell phones? when the EMP from the thermonuclear bomb wipes out the cell tower system and their ability to tell what time it is? I'll still have my old fashioned mechanical time keeping device ticking away...

I have 5 or 6 watches that sit on the night stand and been there for years. Thought I might want to start wearing one of them a few weeks ago but all the batteries were dead. I don't need to know what time it is very often any way. When the sun comes up it is time to get up. When it goes down its time for bed.

Yep, same here. One of the best watches made. Had my first SkyHawk for almost 20 years until the Eco-drive came out then got the Eco SkyHawk. I don't leave home without it.

Here's my fashion tip for the day ladies.

If you want to get ahead of the curve go out and buy the biggest mans sports watch (like the divers style) that you can. We just got back from Italy and every woman there is sporting (no pun intended) massive watches.
We first noticed it on the flight over, all the flight attendants had these huge men's watches on. We figured it was some sort of "flight attendant" thing, but apparantly not.

I didn't wear one for 6-8 years. I got one of the first Timex Expedition ones when I finished Basic in '96. Frakkin' thing has been through at least four wristbands (leather on the ends tends to wear & break) and a new seal and screw on the back, not that it'd matter since the plastic around the buttons is worn. Regardless it still functions alright when it's wet and not sure if I've even had to change the battery. I got a newer version of the Expedition about four years ago to replace that one when it diess (all digital ones have died for me in a couple of years before) but the original is still going. I started carrying it in my uniform pocket so I wouldn't have to keep replacing the band. Plus I worked flightline for about six years so couldn't wear watches or rings at work. Looking at getting one of those all-web type of bands. The replacement is still on the plastic display stand being used as a desk clock by the computer. I got my cell phone after I retrained off the flightline so got used to using that for a while.

I now wear a decent analog Fossil one most of the time, I agree it does seem to be a note of interest when wearing a decent one even if it isn't a Rolex. I've had a jeweler or two ask me how much I wanted for it. I also have a Tag Heuer replica kinetic I bought in Turkey for $25. I was curious one day and took it in to a store that sold the real ones to see what the difference was, after five minutes of looking at it the only things he could tell was that the letters were a different color (think they're gold vs white) and the back was transparent. He said they didn't make transparent backs then, although I think I've seen some since with. Another difference I noticed later is it doesn't catch up the day/time if it stops and is restarted like I think the actual ones do.

I used to wear a pocket watch in high school, been thinking of getting another one.

Well, I have a minor watch (timepiece, wristclock... oh whatever) collection myself, including one older piece my wife gave me for our wedding that requires winding. I can't imagine not wearing one.

Then again, I am terrible at recharging the dumb phone, so I'd better have a watch on once that thing dies.

PS - Thanks mods for changing the title. Looks like that took the entertainment value out of the thread, though.

Politically correct? I don't think either party sanctions calling someone a T**T, or says what is or isn't an 'expletive deleted'
On topic, I don't wear a wris****ch anymore but have a fine collection of pocket watches. The one I wear daily is a waterproof, shock resistant Swiss Army. Still makes me old (or chained to Time) I suppose. Rereading of Ballard's 'Chronopolis' anyone?

Yeah, I work the overnight shift, I think it was about 2am when I posted the original message. Nice slow shift last night, no jobs but man did it drag. Felt like time was slowing down. And speaking of time, I can't leave my house without wearing a watch. I feel naked without my watch, wallet, chapstick and cell phone. Always have to have them on or near me.

I used to be obsessed with time. I had several watches over the years and settled on Casio G-shock watches due to working in shops and outdoors. They could take a lickin and keep on tickin! (oops, I think that was someone else's slogan.) Anyway, I'm not sure when it happened, but I just thought to myself that I'm "timing" my life away. So I put the watches in the drawer and now if I HAVE to know what time it is, I glance at my phone or the time on my computer.

I wear a watch because working in live TV demands I know what time it is every second. Granted, we have very accurate clocks in our edit rooms, but I like having my own timepiece with me.

The cell phone is too much bother to get out of my pocket.

I wear a watch daily. It don't take much time/energy to turn your wrist 1/8 to 1/4 turn to see what time it is.
I have a few watches. The best one is my Casio Forrester. I have had this watch now for 7 years and have never even replaced the battery yet.
Hehehe...my buddy wears a 15,000 dollar Rolex. Looks nice but it keeps screwing up. He's had it in for repairs 3 times now. I agitate him because my 18 dollar watch keeps better time than his Rolex.
I have a nice gold Seiko kinetic watch. Needs the band repaired as one of the link pins came out. Luckily, it fell off on the living room carpet.

Lucky...

Hey, wait... I might be a REAL biker now! No more posting on the "poser" threads for me... My wrist looked like badrocks until about two weeks ago when the battery died... so what did I do? get a new battery? NO!!! I got the Formotion shock/vibration resistant windshield mount motorcycle clock! If I'm not on my bike, do I really NEED to know what time it is? TIME TO GET ON MY BIKE!!!

I've never needed to wear a watch because I have a great innate sense of elapsed time -- to the point of freaking out family and friends when they ask me what time it is and I'm almost always within a minute or two. I just don't need more precision than that in my life.

My teenage son, on the other hand, wears a watch because without it he'd be lost.

If that ever happens, time won't matter anyway. What will count is making sure you have more/better firepower than your neighbors.

Yes, I wear a watch. A very fine $9.96 Wal-Mart special that is about 2 years old. I guess I'm old school because I also still use a road atlas when I travel.
