Julie, Cinque Terre was certianly unique. The road only goes to the most northern and southern towns, and before the railway was put through the only way to reach the middle villages was by boat, or to hike the trail.
It took 2 hours of solid gruling hiking to make it to the next village, I think we sweat 10 pounds off...........which was good 'cause when we got to Vernazza I had a huge lunch! We took the train from my Dad's town, and it took about 1 1/2 hours ot get there.

I have tons of pictures, figured everyone would be bored of them by now. I'll keep putting them up as I get time.
Cheers.

Definitely not bored Carlo.

Those are cool. I like looking at stuff like that.

In looking at the pic of the coliseum with all those bullet holes it makes me think what a shame.

All those historical buildings and other artifacts that were destroyed during the wars.

I heard that occupying armies in Egypt used the great Sphinx for target practice (hence the reason it has no nose).

HOLY SMOKES!!! Carlo...the pics are unreal!!! You did a great job of capturing the culture and history of the area. I can see why you loved being there so much.

Thank you for taking the time to take them and post them!!!

More? Ok.

Here's Blackie, the adopted farm cat. He is pretty spoolied, as noted by the plate of pancetta:

A view towards our villages from the other side of the Valley:

The Moka Express, about the best way to make 2 cups of coffe you will ever find. I am going to try to find one here this weekend:

This is Greenie, one of the hundreds of little lizards that live around the house:

More pizza (their was always more pizza):

Tracy at the castle overlooking Campiano:

Their are no straight roads here, even when they should be they put curves in them:

Looking out from the castle at Bardi:

Looking down at the village of Bardi from the castle.Their were literally hundreds of small villages sitting atop hills with a large castle at the center. It would take you years to visit every one:

MontoRosso, at Cinque Terra(the starting point of our "hike"):

Me and my Dad:

A true "custom" Ferrari (along with a striking model of course):

The explanation beside the car. (their is rich and their is really righ apparantly):

My all-time favorite F1 driver, and true Canuck hero:

Streetcars in Milan:

This is the small, very out of the way, church where The Last Supper resides. We booked tickets to see it online and they cost about $10 each. (well worth it in my book) Of course it took us an hour driving around Milan to find the place, then another 1/2 hour to try to find parking. Still worth every moment. You are led through 2 seperate closed air chambers before being locked into the chapel with a maximum of 20 people for 15 minutes. The room is completely sealed from the outside and their are double airway doors leading in and out. Thier is only a 3' barrier and about 10' between you and one of the greatest works of art in the world. Intheory you could hop the barrier and damage the fresco, but you would not be albe to make it out of the room. i'm sure everyone knows, but The Last Supper is not a painting. it is a fresco (paint on plaster) and covers the entire wasll. it is appx. 20' wide and 10' high, and is simply breathtaking, even it's present state of disintegration.

Wandering the tiny streets of Pontremolli, a village in Tuscany just over the mountains from us:

The remains of an old crossbow:

A "special" seat for bad children:

"Put them in the Iron Maiden!"..."Awesome!"....."Off with their heads!"....."Bogus!" (just had to get that in there):

Thanks buddy, my Dad lives here in the same town as we do. But he travels over eveyr summer for a few months to stay in the old farmhouse. We are trying to convince him to sell his big ole' house here, buy a small condo, and then spend more time in Italy. He really loves it there. He is 72 and spends most days still looking after the various little plots of fields he owns.
