Default Google Chrome

I just downloaded and installed Google's new web browser. It's just a beta, but so far I can say I'm really impressed. It loads this site MUCH faster than any other browser I've used. I'm still checking out the features, but so far, so good.

Has anyone else installed it?

I've installed it, and while it seems decently speedy it has some issues. Mostly the problems I've encountered are javascript issues. For example, when viewing the forums here the "Forum Tools" button/link doesn't work correctly. Also, my favorite home page, Netvibes, doesn't work 100%. Right now there's no way I could switch to it...there's too many missing features compared to Firefox with all the add-ons I have. I also saw some benchmarks today that showed that Firefox 3.1's javascript engine is/will be faster than Chrome's. Chrome DOES have some nice features though (but most of them can also be found in the IE8 beta).

Haven't had time to try it yet.
I do hate IE, and IE8 beta is using more resources that the entire WinXP OS. Think I'm sticking with Firefox for now, but will definately give Chrome a whirl when I get the time.

Just switched to Firefox a little while ago, I want to hammer out some of the issues I'm having with that before I go on to something else, and let Google hammer out some of their own while it's still beta.

While we're at it, anyone have issues with PDF's using Firefox?! Half the time they won't open, I can only open them if I save them first. Only half the time...

I thought with the name "CHROME" in it many would have already installed it.

I installed it and so far so good.

Be careful w/ google and the data it collects. It's much easier to get your personal info and records from a corporation than from you individually. Heck, they might be sharing all of your gmail emails, personal info, browser history and search history w/ the feds and not even be able to tell you they are doing it. Everyone is jumping on google services w/o understanding that they are losing control over info they assume is private.

OK, call me paranoid but I don't trust anyone in Washington to be looking out for our well being.

H.R. 1955: Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act of 2007 (GovTrack.us)

"Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act of 2007 - Amends the Homeland Security Act of 2002 to add a new section concerning the prevention of violent radicalization (an extremist belief system for facilitating ideologically based violence to advance political, religious, or social change) and homegrown terrorism (violence by a group or individual within the United States to coerce the U.S. government, the civilian population, or a segment thereof in furtherance of political or social objectives)."

All internet traffic is monitored and stored. Record of everything you do kept by government already.

I Googled "chrome" and:
about 104,000,000 results for chrome
I Googled "flatulence" and:
about 2,450,000 results for flatulence
I Googled "motorcycle and:
about 123,000,000 results for motorcycle
So...
Motorcycles have more pages than chrome...
and farts are funny

Nothing on the Internet is private

If you haven't already, try letting the entire document download before you try to navigate through it. I have noticed that Firefox will lock up if I try to page through a PDF before the whole thing has been downloaded. If I wait, I rarely have problems.

What I get when I click on a PDF link, is a new window opens, the PDF download complete notice, and a blank document. That's by memory... I'm pretty sure it's a PDF window that opens, but it COULD be a new browser window, I'll make note of it next time.

Now what I do is save it, then open it and it works... it's a minor inconvenience, but one I don't' like. I haven't tried rusty's solution either...

There are ways to make Firefox download faster. Mostly by allowing it to download multiple items as separate threads or processes, and by increasing the number of requests Firefox can make to a server at one time. Not hard to do but beyond the scope of expertise for most people.

I will say that Chrome by far has the best NEW features I have seen in a web browser yet. I am a web developer and spend 99% of my life on the web...

My favorite feature? The "Most Recently Visited" home page... LOVE IT!

EDIT: If you use Sharepoint at work you will still need to have IE installed to use most features...

acrobat sucks... slow, very very slow. You can literally download and install Foxit reader in the time it takes to open a PDF with Acrobat reader.

And just what makes you think other email sites are not sharing your information?
The only way to be sure is to have your own web service with your own email system and THEN you have to prevent hackers and nasties from getting in.
Not exactly a win win situation is it?
