Looks good, Dave. How much clearance do you have between the tire and rear fender?

Thanks Chad, There is 1" clearance. I thought about taking it a little lower since the wheel, fender and swing arm all travel as one unit with no threat of tire scrubing the fender as before when the fender was mounted to the frame. but 1" looks good.

Nice bike but I think of it more of a chopper, not a bobber. I don't think you should paint the forks black but rather get them polished, that would fit the bike better. Something says me you are thinking of getting apes? The handlebars you allready have blends in very well, keep them! Good luck!

The mini cat eye turn signals came with a threaded mounting stud 10M x 1.50 thread. I need a 10M x 1.25 thread to screw into the the hole in the frame where the stock strut bolts were. Currently i have them mounted but they are bearly screwed in. I haven't been able to locate any yet. I guess they could be made with a pipe & tap & die or drill out a hole in a bolt? any suggestions?

I, for one, would like to see that. I've been thinking about doing the same on my bike. I'd also like to see what you do to fill the hole where your strut bolts used to go. Did you thread your turn signal into one of them and are looking for a way to plug up the other?

Yeah, I really like that look, too. I think you should go for it, and then post as many details as you can about it, so it's that much easier for me when I decide to do it in a year or so.

It's going pretty well. I got my fender, and ordered my seat and some rear turn signals. I should be receiving that stuff this week. Hopefully, I'll get to fabbing up the fender this weekend. I don't weld, so I've got a buddy involved to help with the fab work. I'm pretty excited about it. I'll post more details once we get started. I'll post some pics once the seat gets here.

The best way to paint the triple trees and the fork lowers is to take the wheel off and slide the forks out of the triple trees. May seem like more time then just taping but it is very clean afterwards. Also Is your bike still lowered 3", looks like your fender must hit the seat a lot? you have that problem?

Steve, thanks for the paint tip. Yes 3" lowered in the rear. No I have not had any problem fender / seat scrub. there is more clearance than it looks, see in the earlier pic above with the train car in the background. Maybe? because its low, the swing arm doesn't have as far to travel?? when I had the frame mounted stock fender, the tire would sometimes scrub the fender when it hit a big bump or dip.

There is a fair amount of welding to do on the fender. I've enlisted the help of a friend for that. I think it's gonna turn out pretty sweet. Hopefully, I can get going on that this next week. I got my seat today, so I'm putting up a pic with the seat and fender setting in place.

I want to do an 800 bobber some day.....and it will be flat black. Some old school pinstriping would look cool on yours.

Currently, I 'm trying to figure out to raise the back of my seat a couple of inches for leveling and comfort. I tried to mount 3" springs yesrterday, but wasn't satisfied. Now I 'm thinking of new mounting idea's and open to suggestions. That is part I like, trying, thinking, asking, searching, creating, learning, growing = LIVING LIFE : )

I remember El Skitzo writing about adjusting his seat for the same reasons. I did a quick search and found the thread "Bobber makeover - El Skitzo Flako will ride again!" It has the text, but all the pictures have been removed. If I remember it right, he bent some flat bar in an "s" shape and bolted it to the rear seat support. I'll be working on my seat this week and will try to get some pics up by the end of the week. I've got a hinged bracket in front bolted up with the gas tank. For the back, I took some 1/4" flat bar, heated it up and bent it around a large diameter pipe that was laying nearby. My next step will be to cut the rounded bar to length and get it bolted up. Hopefully, it will go together and look close to what what I have pictured in my head.

Maybe if you posted some close-up pictures of how your seat is mounted right now, someone will see a solution that you don't.

Looking good. I'd take the chaingaurd back off. I haven't had one on in a long time and it's fine with out it( so far anyway) I haven't painted fork lowers but with the black fork gaiters it looks ok. If you change your bars and risers to something different i think it'll look nice,(the best part of a bobber is the expensive shiney stuff doesn't look good on it so everything can be on the cheap and used side) I painted my headlight, and front blinkers flat black and it looks a lot better than it did chrome and It's holding up well as is my paint on everything else. Good luck and have fun.
