The only set that was too loud was the fish tails. That fish tail did something to resonate the exhaust and they were super loud. All the others have a great tone that isn't too loud and still perform good.

how you do that? might have to practice on that old OEM pair
what kind of paint did you use that can hold on to the hot pipes? Last edited by goddarddr : 3 Weeks Ago at 07:04 AM. |

I came up with a design in my head and got some bent pipe from the local muffler shop. I cut the flange off with about and inch of pipe on it to start from. The paint is VHT. It is a lot better than dupli-color high heat paint. It can withstand heat from 1300-2000 degrees. It doesn't fade like dupli-color either.

Dave,
Look at my bobber project. I just made a set of pipes by cutting up my existing Hard Krome's. It was really easy. I got them back from the sand blaster this week and already have them primered and painted in high temp semi-gloss. They look great. Saturday I'm wrapping them in heat wrap and hope to have them on Sunday. I'll take video of the sound when I'm done. I also have a set of 4" long removable baffles for them that should add a little back pressure. |

so ?,,,,,,,,,,,,, you cut with a hack saw? and only leave 1" of the oem pipe coming out of motor? then wield new pipe? do you have to make and wield a mounting bracket? with no baffle performance is still good?

I cut it off with an angle grinder. I like using the stock flanges because they won't bend like aftermarket ones and it has that inner pipe that serves as a little power cone at the head. I just build from there and you do have to make new mounting brackets. I just weld bolts to the back and make brackets to go to them. I have never dyno tested my bikes with these pipes on it but I have never noticed a loss of power except with the shotgun fishtails. They were just too short. I don't care about a dyno test. The only thing that matters to me is if there is a noticeable change. But just design a set that you can put some baffles in so you know you got some back pressure.

I wouldn't say the wrap really does anything for you except not burn you if you touch the pipe. I do it just for the looks. When it's on there you are gonna have it for awhile unless you take it off. Make sure you want it because if you don't like it when you take it off the pattern of the wrap is burn on the pipes. Last edited by Alley Rat : 2 Weeks Ago at 12:16 PM. |

Just a tip, when you heat wrap your pipes, give it a good 50 miles before you pull on to a gas station!!! I did after 1/4 mile from my house.
When I turned the engine off and looked around all I could see was screaming people running from the pumps, this was mildly amusing until the man behind the glass was refusing to turn the pump on for me!! Whilst looking at the man flapping his arms, I noticed the level of smoke pouring from under my bike!! And I was the only one laughing!

interesting. thanks for posting the hot pipes. im taking this in, think the wrap looks kool, I might just start with painting my cruzers with black VHT.
here is a new pic. I took my homemade seat bracket off and mounted the seat right on the cross bar like i did at the beginning of my project and lowered the front 3" = low ridin ![]() Last edited by goddarddr : 2 Weeks Ago at 07:35 PM. |
