An update would be to this, after a 580 mile drive to Pigeon Forge last week plus another 200 or so miles in the mountains and then laying down the bike on the side of the road, I am proud to say the relocation of the rectifier is still safely secured to the bike. It seems like this is a pretty decent location. I just thought I would give a update to people who wanted to know how it would fare after a long ride!

Ditto what Ryan said constrictor, everybody OK? I've dropped mine as well and it's almost like they designed these things to be dropped, very little to no damage. The footpegs take the brundt of the blow. |

Absolutely the clearest, easiest, cleanest description of a how-to I've ever seen! Wish it were you writing the how-to manual for the rest of the bike. Many thanks, and here's hoping the moderators relocate this thread to the Mechanics Corner for permanent residency.

awesome tutitorial, i just did mine after seeing this page...only difference is i made a bracket that went all the way across from one mounting tab to the other...just to give it a little bit more strength, instead of having it hang by one both..i wouldn't have done it at all if i didn't run across this sight on the web.....john

Just thought I'd post this as another option: Another variation of this mod relocates it to the cross-brace on the swingarm located just in front of where the cat convertor used to be. All you need to get is two galvanized electrical conduit brackets and two nuts/bolts to mount the bracket to the rectifier and two more nuts/bolts to mount the brackets to the cross-brace. The wiring can even be left in the stock location, or moved out of site like shown in Constrictors pics. It is totally out of site in this location. Obviously if you have stock exhaust, this variation won't work.

I think a good idea would be for people to take detailed pics of other places they've relocated their rectifier. I'll admit, my location isnt the best because it puts it right behind the front wheel exposed to all the nasty garbage on the road.
If people would post some good pics of alternate locations, I would be happy to put together a collection showing everyone all their options.

i honestly do not think it's a bad location to mount it up front..i have been caught in several storms, and have noticed that even in the stock location it gets filthy and wet..im sure it's pretty well sealed from moisture, maybe it's a little out in the open to small pebbles when mounted out front, but when i made the bracket to go all the way across the frame, it kinda covers it up, only about 30% of it is exposed, if i do ever have a problem, well i'll just relocate it to the back somewheres..john

At first I thought the front mount could be prone to damage, but I doubt you'd ever have a problem. The location I mentioned was necessary for me as I have a chin spoiler installed, and obviously it wouldn't get much air-flow behind the spoiler. I'll try to get some pics and e-mail them to you if you want to add them to the thread. I'm sure I saw some pics some time ago on this site of the install in the alteranate location, but can't seem to find them now??
