Paint won't affect the ground. I used to have a sparto taillight. One of the wires is for running and the other is brake.

Speaking of headlights i need some advise/help. I laid my bike over a couple days ago and need to replace my headlight, left peg and blinker cheaply. Stock headlights seem to run $200 or more but how much trouble is it to buy a different headlight and mount it? also thinking of using this as an opportunity to change a few things if I can find a way to do it inexpensively.

Oh no man, you didn't get hurt did you?

The headlight wouldn't be hard to change as long as you had the wiring diagram. I have one that I can scan for you if you need it. I also have my stock turn signals if you want that too. They are still on my bike right now but I don't have a switch to work them anymore. I'm planning on getting some smaller ones to move off of the forks anyway. I could come up your way and give you a hand with everything if you want. What are you planning on changing? Mini apes?

That's my stock classic headlight xfiend. It looks really huge now that the rest of my bike is skinny but it works with the fat tires.

I didn't get hurt too bad, banged up ankle and road rashed hand. I am still looking for parts right now, haven't had a day off since I laid it down and now all the shops are closed for weekend/Memorial day. Found a couple vn800a headlights on ebay for cheap but nothing for the classic and have no idea if they are interchangeable. The front blinkers are ok btw, I need rear left blinker. I am hoping to do mini apes, new mirrors and forward controls but I have a $500 limit on parts. I also have always hated the way the rear blinkers look. With that $500 I need a mirror, headlight and rear turn signal before I can think about anything else. Also need to bend my front peg forward if I don't do the forward controls thing. I have a lot to figure out but any help would be great (i didn't even realize I would need a wiring diagram, thought I would just take off old and put on new). Unfortunately other than this Thursday I am not going to have a chance to do anything for a couple weeks (inventory and my son's bday). I will keep you posted and let me know if you find anything that might help. ps I don't look on here that often so my email is gregory.jones81@gmail.com

I have some extended electrical switches that would fit your 16" bars and I would be willing to trade for the stock length electrical. Email me at mcmorrow.chris (at) gmail.com if your interested.

Hey just wanted to stop by and say this Thread is PURE GOLD, thanks so much for posting all this information. I crashed my bike and need some new parts, always wanted a bobber but felt intimidated by the project. Now it is my chance to finally bob the vulcan, thanks guys, also question. What kind of drag bars did you get?

Do you mind me asking what size those shinko tires are?
I just picked up an 800 classic and plan on going for the bobber style you created here, though, I am a newbie at this.
The tires I'm looking at are the shinko classic 240, and only have a tire size of MT90H-16. What does that equate when compared to say 150/80-16? Also, this shinko is only listed as a rear tire - would I be able to use it on the front as well or is that a no-no?

That is a good tire. I am running it on my bike, and I have had no problems with it. I have run it for almost a year now. I don't know the exact mileage on the tire, but its got to be around 3000 at least. I'm not really impressed with the wear, but I go down gravel roads periodically, and they will wear a tire down quicker. I love the way it looks, so I can live with the wear not being that great. Here are a couple of pics of the tire on my bike.

    Hey Guys,
I am a new user to this thread. I have started my bobber(2000 Kawasaki Vulcan Drifter 800) project and I work on it whenever possible. So far all that I have done to it is the tail lights, drag bars, drop seat (I made this myself, cut and bent the seat pan and hand-tooled my own leather seat) I am looking to put a smaller tank on it. Any Ideas or models of another stock tank that may be compatible?

First - you should start your own thread with pics (never enuff) and progress reports. We all are a bit voyeuristic here when it comes to watching other bikes take shape. We like to share and bounce ideas off eachother and your own thread is an easier way to keep track of all your work.

As for the tank, you can make anything fit, just depends how much work you want to do. A lot of us have gone to sporty peanut tanks because of the nice look and availability (they are everywhere). But if you were looking for a direct bolt on, I don't think you will find one to fit without some type of modification...
