Superfly, That's a nice restoration. I'm going to be getting a new rear tire this weekend and also a new chain, but I was looking at your 520 conversion and wondering how much that chain and sprockets cost? I was looking on the sumorallparts website, but couldn't find it. I'd rather keep the stock gearing though. Do you think it'd still be worth the upgrade?

Thanks! The 520 conversion was quick and really easy. In hindsight, I would have kept the stock gearing (I ended up going back to a 15t. front sprocket) I wanted to try the -1 +2 gearing on this bike, and I must admit that the bike was super quick and right in the middle of the powerband constantly, but I felt like I might have been pushing the engine a bit too much, and she was running much warmer than before.
The price was $149.95, and you would have to call sumofallparts because I am not sure if this conversion is on their website, but if you speak to them they will get it for you. I would say it was a worthy upgrade. I really like it and in another 12k+ miles, I will get another set.

Thank you, I think I'm going to get that with stock gearing.
In 6th gear me ('91 600r V&H/stage 1 carbs) and my dad's ('94 Katana 600 stock) are dead even. So this and ignition advancer might give me a slight edge on the straights...I already own him in the curves. haha |

The ignition advancer is great on this engine, it really smoothed the bike out. I noticed the difference. If you really want the edge, make sure to check the valve clearances, it is super easy to do, and if it is out of spec, when you get it back into spec, you will notice the difference.

Well I've been working on getting the 520 kit, but they seem to be having trouble finding the parts. It's supposed to be delivered friday, but they're sending me a 45t rear and their not sure if the front sprocket is going to fit.
They're good with emailing back and forth so hopefully it will all get fixed. Do you know what the part number for your 15t front sprocket was? |

This is where our story ends. This post was started on 04/09/06, and I just sold the Ninja on 10/05/08. For the last 2+ years this bike was my daily ride, and I put a total of almost 20k miles on the bike. Living in Los Angeles, this bike was perfect! I have referenced this bike as a true workhorse, because this was a great solid, dependable bike. The bike spent more time in-between cars lanesplitting morning rush hour traffic than it did in a lane.
This is how the bike was the majority of the time I was using her. Every so often, the bike did get a chance to go out to Angeles Crest... ![]() The Ninja was in a Movie that was made to get funding for the main feature (never found out what happened with that....) But I rode out to the desert early on a very cold and windy sunday morning so they could use the bike. I took a couple of pictures and videos of the stuntwoman on the bike, and yes, that is a shotgun on her back. ![]() ![]() I don't know the purpose of the dude on the dirtbike, but his top is not flattering... a couple of Videos of the shoot. Movie Set 1 Movie Set 2 It was VERY cold and windy that day.... And this is the bike when I sold it. ![]() ![]() ![]() I will always think of this bike as one of the best bikes I have ever owned. Having a bike as dependable as the ninja, it gave me a chance to indulge myself and my hobby and build a couple of other bikes, while never having to worry about having a good dependable daily ride. I picked up a CBR600F3 and rebuilt it, and rode it around for a bit, but I still prefered the Ninja to the CBR. Here is a quick video for the sale of the CBR with a piece of music I wrote in the background. CBR Video Even a discarded piece of junk can be rebuilt and transformed into a great bike that you can get alot of fun and miles out of. I would recommend a C model Ninja to anyone. The bike was inexpensive to build, and overall, this model has a good carb setup, and good electrical system. There are lots of upgrades you can do like K&N pods, ignition advancers, etc... that really makes this bike scream. The before picture: I will miss this bike. -Superfly

Yes, you can run a "A" model carb on a "C" model engine and vice versa, but they are not identical. The pilot circuit on a "A" model carb has 3 holes, whereas the pilot circuit on the "C" model carbs have 4 holes. Plus there are jetting differences between the 2 models also.

I picked up a zx600c when I was 17, got some new cylinder heads and had them hot tanked and lapped the valves and put new stem seals on it along with a custom 4/2/1 header frankensteined from the original and a stainless gsxr 600 header, k&n pods and a Dynojet stage 3 kit. Loved the bike, and I just rode a new r6 and it doesn't seem anything better. Ever since I bought it the shifter bushing/bung on the engine case was broken and the weld/drilled hole that remained never lined up with the inner engine cover so the shift shaft seal would leak all the time. I'm trying to make this bike solid for summer so I am in the market for some engine cases. Plans - fix that engine case, 520 conversion, possibly advance ignition or get a piggy back controller, ram air, various body work mods. So, can anyone help me out with locating some cases (must be a matched set)? I'll post pics of my build |
