Why not select the area, desaturate the area and then use the eye dropper to select the color and airbrush it into that area, with say 75 or 80% opacity?

OR... select the area and adjust the color through 'hue/saturation'... you get less of a posterized look to the color.

Oh... if you use this method, you may want to select 'colorize' first on that same control palette.
