Default Photoshop Tutorials

Thought i'd post up some tutorials ive made up on how to change the colour of your bike - rims, plastics etc - how to do graphics, how to do black/white colours, how to make something look chrome. I found out how to take screenshots and on my forum http://motoxfusion.iforumer.com someone wanted help on how to do that stuff so i made tutorials to show him how so thought i'd post them here too

Changing the Colour

Step 1

Select the Lasso tool, right click on it and select Polygonal Lasso Tool

Step 2

If you want to see the area more clearly, zoom in on it by holding down CTRL and pressing + (CTRL and - to zoom out again)

Step 3

Using the Lasso tool, go around the sides/edges of the area, once you've been around it all, double click to select the area

Step 4

Click on the heading Image>>Adjustments>>Colour Balance

Step 5

Change the settings to get the colour you want

If it doesn't look as bright a colour as you want edit it further by going to Image>>Adjustments>>Variations (cant get a screenshot to show this)

Step 6

Once you have done this, zoom out and see how it looks

Step 7

Do the same to the back rim by selecting it using the Lasso Tool

Step 8

Go to Image>>Adjustments>>Colour Balance and change the colour to what you want again

Step 9

Zoom out again and see the finished result

To change the colour of plastics its just the same thing as shown above

Changing the Graphics

Step 1

Open the picture of the bike you want to put the graphics onto and the pic of the bike that you want the graphics from

Step 2

Click on the pic you want the graphics from and select the Polygonal Lasso Tool

Step 3

Zoom in on the area you want (hold down CTRL and press + )

Step 4

Go around the edges and select the area

Step 5

Select the Rectangular Marquee Tool (the box shaped tool above the lasso tool next to the cursor/move tool) and right click on the picture and select Free Transform then select the Move Tool (cursor) and move the selected area onto your other picture

Step 6

Move the graphic onto the picture you want

Step 7

Go to the Edit menu>>Transform>>Scale and change the size so it fits the required area

Step 8

Go to the Edit menu>>Transform>>Rotate to make it fit the required area

Step 9

If you also want to move the numberplate background over select the Polygonal Lasso Tool again and go around the area

Step 10

Select the Move Tool (cursor) and move it onto the picture you want

How to do Black/White graphics

Step 1

open the picture you want to use

Step 2

Zoom in on the area you want to edit (CTRL and + ) and go around it with the Lasso Tool

Step 3

Go to the Image menu >>Adjustments>>Desaturate to take the colour out of the area

Step 4

Go to the Image menu >>Adjustments>>Brightness/Contrast and increase the brightness for white or decrease for black, you can also increase the contrast if you want if it makes it look better

Step 5

Go to the Image menu >>Adjustments>>Variations. I usually click on Original first then for this i clicked Lighter twice. Once you have done this zoom out and see how it looks

Step 6

Do the same for the other plastics/ areas you want changed

Step 7

Once you have done everything you want changed, zoom out and see it finished

Great Job Firestorm. Simple, easy to follow, easy to duplicate.

These are some good quick-click photoshop tricks for anyone who wants to play around with different color schemes on their bike.

Thanks.

very cool, had this program for some time and couldn't do much more than resize pictures with it.

what version are you using? I've got 7 and don't have the same lasso tool you have.

I have that one too but not that tool. I am trying the magnet lasso.

I'm trying to change the color on the bottom fairing to the same green as the rest but not having any luck so far. Just don't look right.

the magnetic lasso tool works too, i used to use that before i realised that the polygonal lasso was much better and easier to use doesnt jump all over the place

It can be hard to match colours exactly so it looks right, have to find the right adjustments

the picture looks mottled/murky, no solid color. maybe its because of the lighting on the picture. I'll try to get another picture and try again.

yeah the lighting is also sometimes a problem, if its not good lighting it will go all murky and pixelated especially if it is a dark picture the colours will just not work out well

here's an example of a bad picture someone gave me for a request, is too blurry and bad lighting so it just didnt work out well at all

so here's how it turned out (this was awhile ago before i could do black properly but it still wouldnt work out properly)

for those of you who try out the tutorials post up what you've done so we can see how it turned out

I was trying to change the black lower to green on this picture but it just wasn't looking right.

i see what you mean, thats one of the hard ones to get right it goes all pixely/grainy looking i tried desaturating it first to see if that would help but it still doesnt look right

there must be a way to make it look better than that though...i will have to try and see if i can find another way to do it

heres the best i could get from it

that's about the same as what I was getting. I'll get it out and get a better picture once the sun comes out again.
