I love the keystones. I got em on my bike except i got 7/8 just because i like the smaller bars better. I shortened them up three inches on each side and they look so good.

That's funny Alley Rat, I was also considering to shorten them a bit in case I gets them. I'll have to take a closer look at your pics to see how they look on an 800 with the 21" wheel. I think I have seen an action pic too, would be interesting to see the riding position with these on. I'll go through your earlier posts to see what I can find. I hope you don't mind, I swear I didn't knew that!
Did you do any internal wiring on them? I will stick with the 1" version as we are forced over here to have all the controls and switches up on the bars. Just can't decide on chrome or black...

I like that. Unfortunately we are required by law to have indicator switches, two mirrors, headlight switches and you name it up on the handlebars. Btw I just ordered a set of chromed 1", this pic helped me decide:

I got the new bars and risers this week, standard VN risers. Had to buy new ones as my -95 came with an older type of risers than most of your Vulcans came with, which will not accomodate bars with sharp bends such as the Keystone bars. These newer ones will take care of that, and much easier and cheaper than custom risers. And I think they look pretty good.
![]() My rear shock unit broke down the other day so I have more important things to take care of before I do the handlebar swap. The bike will have to stay in the garage untill is is solved. That makes one month waiting for new sprockets, another 1.5 month of constant rain and now this. Not much riding lately and the fall is coming sooner than usual this year...

This thread is moving closer to The Mechanics Corner rather than the Projects department...
![]() I removed the shock yesterday and fixed it. The lower attachment clevis had completely disengaged from the shock, as seen here. Everything is back on, and I even tightened the locking nut which I must have forgotten last time. I won't bore you with this so I kept it short.

As far as spring mounted solo seats go, through whom did you all go through to get the mounting hardware, especially the front mount? I just got my solo saddle, but I am having a devil of a time figuring out how best to mount the seat to the frame in front. I have seen the west-eagle kit, but don't care for how they mount their springs nor do I want to spend $150. For the springs, I am more inclined to use one set of the frame mounting points of the fender support for the springs something like the "Hot Saki" cobra show bike...
The only mounts I have seen have been the kind that use a U-Bolt and strap the mount to the frame, but I would imagine our bikes would required a mount that utilizes the rear tank bolt. Thanks |

I put the bars on yesterday, will post a picture later on. I noticed that the throttle- and clutch cables are way to long now and the throttle grip is very sluggish because of this. The riding positions is also very uncomfortable. I have the bars leaning a bit forward now but might adjust them more backward. I think I will definitely need higher risers so I am gonna try the DIY mod someone posted on the forum a couple of month ago.

![]() The handlebars looks cool but the riding position is crap and my wrist hurts after five minutes. I will tilt them more backward to see if that helps, and higher risers would be a good idea.

The bars look really cool, but from the pics I think I can see why they would hurt, the angle is so tight for the sread betwen the grips. The bike is looking cool! I really like the finish on the tank, reminds me of something on a WWII bomber or fighter...bet a pinup style image would look great on it!

Thanks guys. I will try to do something about the bars (tilt backward + higher risers), and then continue with the seat mod. I think a new seat wil make a HUGE difference. Did a little mock-up on the computer today:

The bike has been unwilling to start ever since the picture above was taken. Well it starts occasionally but then this happens. I had to rent a trailer to bring it back home to the garage, afters sitting out on the street for a month.
![]() I will have to take it down and clean up the carburetor, the tank and the fuel tap as I suspect there is some sand left in there from the glass blasting last winter. I think it has something to do with the float valve.

Sorry to hear that, but I know you'll get it. Let us know what it was... and hopefully it's simple.
