Being a metal working novice, I have to ask....

To make that bend, did you have to heat the metal, or just man-handle it?

I was thinking of using 1/8" x 1" flat steel for my fairing mounts.

With plasma cutters all you need are dark sunglasses and those that they sell for using with the PC are expense. I have a tendency to take the glasses off, toss them aside and finding them later as I toss a piece of steel onto them. Its cheaper to get several pairs at the dollar store that work just as well.
Got it.

When I see pics you posted of your garage when new I think I need to empty ours out some. It's hard to work in there due to space constraints.

Try mine. I have to move the bike side to side by a foot to work on each side of the engine. If it's on the lift, I can wheel it back and forth.

Kev,

I just tack welded up to the corner, then placed some slight thumb pressure to the end piece and tapped it over (at the corner) with a plastic mallet. As the strap met with the edge and contour I used some visegrips to lock it in place ... then tack welded some more.

If you have a span of 6" or more anywhere in the brackets you are making I suggest you consider using 3/16 X 1"

Started cleaning the edges up and warpage from welding. Roughed up all the steel, washed it with acetone then used plastic to fill in the low spots that I didn't get out with the inline and block sanders. Used 80 grit to work the plastic down and then switched out to 180. It is smoothing out nicely and should be ready for epoxy primer soon.

It does make things tough. I think Kim was shocked at such the small place (smaller then your garage) I was working in before the new shop.
