OK thanks! I am heading out to the garage to perform step 1 on my wife's brand new 900 classic so it sounds less like a lawnmower (her words) If she wants more sound then next to Step 2 and 3 next week. Wish me luck <g>

I just bought a new 2007 Vulcan 900 custom and love it. 3 weeks and 800 miles later and I am ready to do the exhaust. Is there any way you could let us hear your exhaust? I too have many plans and would love to save some cash. I also want to be sure before I make this modification. Thanks!!!!!

After logging only 150 miles after debaffling I'm still at 47 to 50 mpg, so no change for me so far.

Is this the same for everyone?

Sounds like something worth trying before buying aftermarket exhaust -- don't have much to lose.

Wondering if anyone has found it necessary to add and EFI controller after partial or full baffle removal? Any excessive backfiring or plug fouling?

Thanks,

Just did the debaf myself about 2 weeks ago, just slight bit of backfiring, but I wouldn't say excessive. Has caused me to pay little closer attention to rpms during down shifting or decel. What a difference though in the sound!

I haven't marbled and I've not had had any objectionable backfiring but...I did drop my idle (a 900 no no) the other day in traffic and it did start popping on decel. I set it back and all is good.

Thanks for the info and, predfan2001, the photos were a big help. Thanks! Only problem was the 3" bi-metal saw. It never allowed removal of the end-cap so I have some grinding to clean up the mod. A "little" louder than I expected/wanted but nice sound. Just old age (65). I have drag pipes on my '04 Vegas and recently installed some short baffles to tone it down a bit. Funny...it sounded pretty cool 4 years ago!! At least, on the Vulcan, it will mask a lot of the weird engine noises. Especially the "chirpy" vibration at around 55 mph. Getting ready for a ride from Florida to Chicago, Minn, around Lake Superior and back home. Might order the scooterworks front pulley to keep up with my friends on their H-D's. And, looking at the BAK air cleaner setup just in case anybody would like to chime in with a comment. I've been riding since '63 and the Vulcan is the first time I've enjoyed a windshield, saddlebags, floorboards, heel-toe shifter etc. The Vegas is great around town but, for the price, the Vulcan is a nice road bike. And I bought it because I am "vertically challenged" and it fits nicely!!

Earplugs!

Your right. Nice sound but a little louder than I expected after reading all the posts. Unfortunately, it's all but impossible to find 3" baffles unless you can fabricate your own. I'm working on a solution so IF I have any luck, I'll let you know.

Tomorrows ride into work will be the tell all..If its to annoying, I will be putting serious effort into 3" baffles.. IF I come up with something befor you I will let you know.. some on one of these post mentioned Crumb cups but I have no idea what those are! Do you?

Just did a "crumb cup" search and found something which may be of interest. Link is Road Star Clinic - DG Hard-Krome 3" Straight Baffle Modification . Might be easier than what I had planned on fabricating.

Looks great. Thanks for the informative write-up. I like the red turn lenses. Where did you get them? I had to order clear and use testors transparent red to get mine red.

eBay. I tried coating lenses in the past and didn't like the results.
