Well I have a some progress on the bobber, the handle bars are on and the fender is almost mounted, just need to line up the fender struts. I relocated the Radiator hose and thermo, but after looking at the picture I realized it needs to be turned 180 degress to work. So that will be fixed the next time i get to the bike. I took out some wires I didnt need anymore and also snaked them a little smoother so theywont be outside the seat pan. I also painted the fork lowers and the triple trees. It is moving along. Also the first picture shows the Classic with the new handle bars I put on with the internal wiring.

I am not 100% on how a thermo works but I would like to keep it faced the way I have it right now. Does the Hose coming from the radiator need to go into the top part and not the bottom for it to work properly?

A thermo is nothing more than a pressure switch... the temperature of the coolant builds up with heat, the heat builds pressure, and the pressure opens the valve which allows the coolant to flow through the system. When the coolant passes through the rad, it's cooled and the flow continues... As the engine cools, the stat closes and allows the engine to maintain operating temperature. With any system that flows, there is a direction, and a supply and return... the supply is out the top, through the stat which MUST be facing the right way, and the return is at the bottom... That's a pretty simplistic explanation, for what it's worth...

Looking at this pic, I'm wondering if it's possible to introduce some 90degree elbows into the water line from the radiator so you can move the thermostat housing up next to the frame gusset in front of the tank?
It it were up there it would look more hidden from a side on view I think. You'd probably have to get the corrent top outlet pipe on the radiator actually cut off and replaced with a 90 bent piece right at that point for it to look any good. I might try some photoshop work with it over the Xmas break to see if it would look better... Last edited by El Skitzo : 12-23-2008 at 09:04 PM. |

I am trying my best to make it the cleanest I can get it with still keeping it functionality. So for now the radiator fan will stay, but who knows, once i finish the initial make of the bike I am sure i'll get bored and start stripping it down even more. I just ordered the scootworks adjustable rear lowering kit for the bike so once i get that and install it the wheels will be going on and finally be taking it off the jack.
