You're correct, that is exactly what the picture is showing.

I did not seperate the horn from the compressor; the entire Stebel horn assembly fits nicely in the spot indicated. The horn is connected to the swingarm via a single hose clamp and liberal use of locktite. Remember to put something between your horn's bracket and the swing arm so you don't have metal to metal contact; I used the piece of rubber in the picture I had laying around the shop.

The bottom outline area indicates the space in the frame which allows the sound from the horn to escape; I'm just indicating that by installing in this area you are not putting the horn in a 'box' and its still incredibly loud.

I located the horn's relay and wiring all under the seat.

Sure thing, I'm happy to contribute; I think Stebel's horn is 1000x better than our stock horns.

Ok, thanks for the info. I installed the Stebel last night, but I didn't put it in the same place as you. I bought the hose clamp, but I didn't want to mess up the installation on my first try, so I put it somewhere a little easier to get at. I put it on the front right, under the tank. I am planning on moving it to where you have it in the future, maybe in a few weeks. If the stock relay fails like others says it does, I will move it sooner. Locktite is a good idea, I don't trust how the bolts connect to the compressor. Looks like vibration can loosen the bolt easily, and the whole compressor can slip out of the bolt's cradle. Who designed that part? Certainly not for motorcycles. Another problem with the front right assembly, is that it is difficult to find a bracket that doesn't vibrate or bounce with the weight of the compressor. You have a superior mounting system in more ways than one.

Default Stebel Horn Install on a Mean Streak

I know this thread was originally for the 900 but I couldn't find a better place to post this without starting a new thread. Here's an alternate spot to mount the stebel horn on a Meanie. And BTW, it sucked but its clean and didn't require any extra material other than the wiring kit, which for $10 I highly recommend.

By saying, it sucked... do you mean, that you had to take the gas tank off?
Humm... Cool way to hide it though. NICE!

Taking the gas tank off is the easy part. I actually didn't take if completely off, just enough so that it was out of my way.

The hard part is that these horns are large...even the compact version is friggin enormous for purposes of fitting it to the bike. Have you ever seen a child play that game where they try to stick shapes (triangle, circle, rectangle) into a box with the shapes on it? The rectangle won't fit in the triangle hole! It sorta felt like playing that for a couple hours trying to wedge the horn up there without damaging anything. I had to separate the horn and compressor to get them both up there and reassemble them once I got them almost where they needed to be.

My stebel horn saved me in Manhattan on Sunday. Here is a picture of where I have mine mounted (under gas tank). I also have a bunch of pictures that shows the installation but I don't have a way to explain it since my husband did it for me. However, here are some of them.

The horn mounted

The home made bracket before the horn is installed. We painted it black.

It'll last longer if you don't use it. Use only short minimal blasts as those horns are good for about 20 uses, then they crap out big time. Been thru 2 of them before I dummied up and bought a Fiamm Freeway Blaster.

Odd... i've owned them on two different bikes and they were used all the time (showing friends etc - and of course at the cagers) and never experienced any issues with failing. Owned each bike for about 3 years. Never let me down. $0.02

Has anyone successfully installed these on an older Ninja. I just ordered a set after reading this thread, but am not sure how I will mount them. Any thoughts or tips will help.

If not I will post how I install them when it finally happens.

There are many different locations for install on most bikes. Just depends on how visible you want it to be typically.
