If anyone is interested, my annual Deal's Gap trip is set for 9/17-20 this year. There will probably be about 8 to 10 of us going on various makes/models of bikes. We make reservations and stay at Phillips Motel in Robbinsville, NC.
This year we're planning dinner on the 17th with Debbie's crew at Phillips Restaurant. Rides each day are informal, with everyone going their own direction based on their riding type and interests. We've got slow folks, fast folks, and in-between too. Anyone and everyone is welcome. Just make a reservation and show up. Oh...but bring your own refreshments. The county is dry!

Debbie, as everyone was telling me, just ride at your own pace and you'll be fine. Don't let anyone push you to go faster than you're comfortable. Let the faster riders go around you and enjoy the ride!! It was pretty cool seeing the sporties draggin their knees around the turns (or really close to it)
Oh...just watch out for the semis they take up every inch of the road...and I mean every inch!!

Done the Dragon twice in a month, now I'd like to check out the Snake between Mountain City and Bristol. I hear it has 487 curves in 12 mi. Anybody ever been there on this forum? Pappie

Hey Pappie,
I was on part of the snake about a month ago. Be sure to stop at the Shady Valley Country Store. I was told by some of the guys I was with that the Snake is better than the Dragon, however I have never been on the Dragon. Hopefully I will make it there this fall. Take some pics and ride safe.

Me and my 2 riding buddies just planned a trip yesterday for 9/16-9/20. We plan to be around the Dragon during the same timeframe as your group. We plan to do the Snake again too. We did this same 5-day, 4-state trip in early May, so we're doing it again. Hopefully we'll see you guys and ride together for a quick trip thru the Dragon. Sounds like fun.
We'll be riding: 650R, Katana 600, and a Suzuki Intruder 800 - so look for us. We're the old guys that need to lose weight. Edit: As for the Snake - I've only ridden there twice. Loved it both times. I may be wrong about this, but there are less cops on The Snake if that matters. Also less traffic - at least during weekdays. Deal's Gap always has more riders. As for 1 being BETTER than the other - I don't really have any comments on that other than BOTH are great to ride. The Snake is LONGER with more curves, and it has some pretty darn good curves. At The Snake's local gas station, they have both 'Venomous' and 'non-venomous' gas.

Yeah...if you're in Robbinsville the evening of the 17th, we'll be at Phillips Restaurant!
I'll likely be on the TT600, but maybe the Buell. Hopefully I won't be relegated to riding the connie. Them roads are MADE for sport bikes!

I'll double check with the guys - but I think we'll be headed to Asheville by sundown. We usually ride early, but try and get to our destination by nightfall. If we can still do that - I'd love to join everyone. I'll let you know.

Hey guys - I think I found Phillips Restaurant on E. Main St. Let me know what time you all will be there. I'm pretty sure we will be around there for lunch or early dinner.
Of course, if you meet my 2 riding buddies, please be sure to mention to them that you saw them earlier and that they were riding really S - L - O - W!! I'm pretty sure some little ol' ladies passed them driving in the slow lane.

Thursday the 17th will be our travel day coming over from Charlotte. We generally don't roll in until about 5:00 or so. We're staying at Phillips Motel, so if you pop in around that time, look for us. The most noticable bikes of our group will probably be a pair of BMW K1200LTs. One light green, the other blue. There will probably be a good size group of us. I'll either be on my tan Connie, or a blue sportbike.
