I am hoping things pick up at work between now and then and I can make it next year. Especially since I had to cancel this year.

I had some time so I thought I would map out a route to see how it all worked out. I did this from Edison, NJ. Just doing this as a starting point. I know we have plenty of time but I figured why not get a jump on it while I had a moment since the next few months will be busy for me.

Day 1 Saturday- 355 miles, 5 hours 45 minutes in the saddle from: edison, nj to: I-80 W - Google Maps

Day 2 Sunday - 340 miles 5 hours 30 minutes in the saddle from: I-80 W to: W La Salle Ave - Google Maps

Day 3 Monday - 360 miles 6 hours from: W La Salle Ave to: E 2nd St/US-12 - Google Maps

Day 4 Tuesday - 315 miles 5 hours in the saddle from: E 2nd St/US-12 to: I-94 W - Google Maps

Day 5 Wednesday - 350 miles 5 hours from: I-94 W to: I-94 Bus/I94 Business Loop E - Google Maps

Day 6 Thursday (arrive Red Lodge Montana)- 380 miles 5 hours 30 minutes in the saddle from: I-94 Bus/I94 Business Loop E to: 1105 North Broadway, red lodge montana - Google Maps

Pretty conservative milage Debbie. Just so you're aware, in case you're not, 80 turns into a toll road most of the way thru Ohio.

Didn't know that. The others wanted to take 6 days to get there.

It looks like any route we choose that makes sense will involve tolls.

Yeah that is because its about the only realistic way to get thru northern Ohio. I can't remember if 80/90 thru Indiana is toll or not. Been too many years since I have been thru there.

How much time does it add? Mileage wise it seems just fine.

Just so ya know. 224 is the same as I76 all the way from Barberton to I71 South. I76 comes to an end but 224 continues on as a 4 lane for a bit. But US 30 is a 2 and 4 lane road. Last I remember when you get near the west side of Ohio it turns back into a 4 lane.

If you're going to do all that why not just stay on 224 all the way west? Granted its a 2 lane a lot of the way, but the scenery would be better. And you would come pretty close to me. LOL

Probably better to just stay on I-90. I just rode it from Boston to Columbus (well got onto 271 to 71) and it was all good. I didn't even see any fuzz that didn't have someone else pulled over, and that was 2 the whole way (after albany).

Right wrist!

I'll be watching this. I may want to do it a bit quicker than a 2 week trip though.

Mapquest would not let me apply that option for the entire trip, but I would bet that for certain parts of it we could avoid the interstate. We should look at that as time gets closer.

i agree with Mike, since you guys have so much time to do the trip. you may end up with some longer days but they will be much more enjoyable. hit the interstate here and there to make time and skip past congested areas, but i recommend staying off the interstate as much as possible. just keep in mind that there are a LOT of places where there is nothing for quite a while. so, be careful to time your fuel and food stops around civilization, as well as where you stop for the night.

Rob, if you wanna hang with me then you are more than welcome. the offer is out there to anyone who wants to push hard to cover some ground. just keep in mind though, that i usually take about the same amount of time that everyone else is, but i go a lot farther. i may try to run up to BC before RL next summer, to see Brent and Jodie. that is, if they can't make it. if not, i might shoot all the way to the west coast to see Spok and hopefully ride back in with the group. just something to think about. oh, and as much as i like you and anyone else, i will leave you at a gas station if you slow me down
no bs, just being straight. the only way to put on the miles that i do, in the time that i do, is to make quick stops.

It's been a week since someone posted so just thought I would make this active again. I am out in SF and I am thinking of riding cross country in 2011 (tentative). I want to ride the Pacific Coast Highway. Not enough time to rent a bike on this trip plus I am getting sick. Good thing I go home tomorrow.
