A lot of ideas were thrown out this past weekend about where to go next year. I thought I would ask everyone to post their ideas while it's fresh in our minds. Post away.

I suggested West Virginia again using the Greenbrier as home base. I also liked Martin's Gettysburg to Gatlinburg idea as well. However, any of these two rides would require more time than a Thursday to Sunday but I'm game.

If you all can do it I would suggest Mountain City Tn to Bristol Tn on State Route 421 known as the Snake. If not there is so much to do in Wv and Va. In WV there is Seneca Rocks, Blackwater falls, and Spruce knob. 3 of my favorites. Also a huge Radio Telescope not far from Spruce Knob. Also not far from there is the Cass Scenic Railroad. In VA there is Skyline drive which is awesome!! 105 miles and plan on 8 hours to do it if you want to stop at all the scenic over views. Or take some of the paths. Its worth it!!

There are other possibilities, here is a Civil War ride write-up from Rider Magazine. The last picture shows a map with the route. The focus is more WV and VA, but since we have so many creative planners amongst us, we could come up with our own version....

2006 Suzuki V-Strom DL1000 - gray

Looking at Mapquest Appomattox is about 125 miles from the Greenbrier, would be an interesting ride.

Beckley, WV might be an ok town to stay in. Looks like they have a few hotels and restaurants to choose from. Anyone know anything about this town?
Or maybe Canaan Valley or Morgantown.

Beckley WV was the hell-hole we rode thru in 2010 forum ride on our way back to I-64.
Elkins or Buckhannon WV might be good home bases.
Johnson City, TN (part of the tri-city area of Johnson City and Bristol VA/TN) is really marketting themselves as a motorcycle destination. Might be a bit far for some of you northern folk.

If West Virginia is still on the table, this area near Seneca Rocks always looked really nice: http://www.smokehole.com/index.php
Sorry we missed it this year but since February I've known August was gonna be a month dedicated to working six and seven days a week, and it has been. Fortunately, it won't happen again so we ought to be able to make the ride next year.
Took a look at the Southern Dozen and that's a link worth saving.

Ken the HD Guy suggests Lewisburg, WV. Nice coutryside to ride, close to Greenbriar for gambling but a lot cheaper to stay. Haven't checked on restaurants yet. Might even have cell service and hotel wifi![]()
Words aren't children and there's nothing wrong with killing them to clarify a point or keep the peace.
I checked and it seems to meet the necessary minimum requirement of cell service, wi-fi and decent food choices. Being close to the Greenbriar is an added bonus.![]()
Hey if Shawn makes the trip, now that he's a reality tv star, maybe they'll send a limo to pick us up![]()

I guess not.
Ken the HD Guy and I are already discussing where we might ride next year. Charleston of course for seafood, maybe Baltimore for crabs, DelMarVa/Atlantic City, and he still wants to do Key West. So who knows, maybe someone will step up to the plate for the Kawi team and try to put something together. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves in PA/NY this year. Hate you didn't make it, Big Man, we were all looking forward to seeing the new bike.

Maybe after the holiday's we can take a poll to see who and how many are tentatively planning on going. Once we have that info, I'm sure collectively we can handle the details.
