Default Video of our ride yesterday

I added this to another thread, which probably meant it got lost.

----------------------------------

I downloaded the video from my camera after we got home from our ride today and made two movies, which I uploaded to YouTube. The quality really sucks; sorry about that. The vibration is so bad that if you're nauseated or you've had too much caffeine, I don't recommend viewing them.

They will, however, give you an idea--however headache-inducing it might be--of what it's like to ride through the river canyons we ride regularly. This particular one is the canyon of the Cache la Poudre River. It's one of my favorite rides. We also ride the Big Thompson River Canyon to Estes Park a lot, but I prefer the Poudre. There's always a lot less traffic, and it's peaceful. If you continue through the canyon, you end up in a nice little town called Walden, from which you can continue on the Steamboat Springs.

The dude in front of me is Alan on his FJR. I had about 30 minutes of video, but I mercifully lifted only a few short clips that showed the best of the twisties.

This video is from the second part of our ride. We went over Horsetooth Reservoir when we left, too, but I didn't have the camera turned on then. We live directly below one of the dams; it takes us about three minutes to get up there. You’ll be able to see that if you watch the video all the way to end; we go from the reservoir directly to our house. From the reservoir, we can head out various ways--southwest toward Rocky Mountain National Park or northwest (as we went today) to Poudre Canyon. Horsetooth is a long skinny reservoir and is a source of drinking and irrigation water for Fort Collins. Lots of recreational boating up there in the summer.

Mayo, FYI--we got to the Poudre via Horsetooth, Rist Canyon, and Stove Prairie Road. Sound familiar?

Yeah, it does make you dizzy, doesn't it?

Mayo, we would have called you yesterday to go with us, but I woke up with a really bad headache and we weren't sure we would go at all. I took a bunch of medicine and drank a lot of coffee, and then we rushed out about noon. We wanted to get back before the rain started. It was sunny in the morning, but by the time we got home it was starting to get overcast. Rained all night last night. Anyway, next time, when we're a little more organized, we'll give you a call. Nice pic, BTW!

Alan went a *little* bit slower than he would have liked yesterday, but we were still going pretty fast through the canyon. 55mph and above a lot of the time, which made me nervous because the posted speed limit is 35 and 40mph in most places. I really don't want another speeding ticket. But we had a lot of fun. I felt joyful yesterday, even with my headache and miserable allergies.

Watching those videos remined me of how badly the roads get chewed up because of the snow. Were spoiled down here when it comes to that.

Nice vid. Thanks. i really liked it in Colorado when I lived there, eaons ago. I used to drive that road ever once in a while on business. Nice "short cut."

Looks like the aspens are just starting to green out.

The trees are all leafing out (and are full of blossoms), which is why my allergies are driving me bonkers. It's worth it, though!

It really is a pretty drive. I love that canyon. Not dramatic like the Black Canyon of the Gunnison River, but nice nevertheless.

only issue I had with the videos is you can barely hear the motor...can you get a remote mic and tape it down by the exhaust?

LOL. That was the first thing I noticed, too. All you can hear is the stupid wind noise.

I really do have to try mounting it behind the windshield and see how that works. I'll probably just get lots of video of bugs committing suicide.

That's awesome J. Was that a "video" camera or just a digital? Very cool, I'm not feeling too sick..LOL.

It's a digital video camera (mini DV). It's pretty old (I bought it in 1997).
