Default 2nd annual colorado memorial day canyon run

well,
julie and i have hammered out quite a few of the details.
here is the plan as it stands.
we will make adjustments as we seem fit.

meeting place. same as last year
andreas_homestead_cafe located in lyon's colorado.
date: sunday...may 27th

prospective leave time will be between 10:00 and 10:30am
be there early if you would like some breakfast before the ride.

prospective map of route.
[see post #18 for updated map
we will stop off in blackhawk for lunch....(any suggestions??)
from there anyone who wishes to depart from the group will have their choice of return trip.
for those of us returning to the northern end.
we might decide to run the interstate to home for the quick return....or take CO93 back to lyons for some fun.
there might be an event to attend at the end of the day,but i will leave that open.
any long distance traveller's who wish to pad down overnight will be given that choice.

so here we go.
let's make this one just as much fun as last year without the "lost "episode

Thanks, Mayo! I'm going to make this a sticky for now; I'll take it down after the ride.

I hope we can get a big group of people this year. Should be wonderful!

I just realized that we haven't really said which route we're taking, although it's implied from looking at the map. Mayo, correct me if I'm wrong about any of this:

Lyons to Estes Park via 36
Estes Park to Blackhawk via the Peak to Peak Highway--7, 72, 119

we could do that.
it would be basically the same way we started out last year.
we could however just go from lyons on 7 down 72,119 to blackhawk.
it would make for a shorter day.
i myself will be in no hurry to get home.

Mayo, do you want to post the proposed alternate route?

We're thinking that if the group rides down to Woodland Park and then heads west on 24, we (Alan, Kathy, Tom and I) are going to split off and go south to Salida, then ride the Arkansas River canyon to Canon City. We're going to spend the night there. Tom and Kathy have never seen the Royal Gorge. Then we'll head home on Monday.

I'm getting excited!

that route is complicated to me.
i will wait to hear from cathy.
if she wants to do it,she will have to be the ride leader for the day.

Sounds like a plan.

I'm glad that Tom and Kathy are joining us this year. We made our plans tonight. Got rooms in Canon City, so we will split off at some point and head south. But we'll be able to do most of the ride with you.

Dawn, come on up! Just think how much fun you'd have. Why wait until July?????

A couple different routes are discussed. Will the current one be described or posted?

Bill, I'm not sure if Mayo and Cathy have decided that yet. Mayo, any comments?

And Mayo, I'm game to leave earlier. We're going to have a fairly long ride that day, and I'll be anxious to get to my motel room in Canon City, which is going to have a HOT TUB!!!

cathy has a sense of a decent ride.
although it doesn't vary much from the original map.
i will leave her to chime in on that.
if you are not on my weekend riders list and would like to be .
please send me a PM so i can give you the details and you may get a chance to meet new people.

one of the reason's why it is suggested we leave earlier is that we are going to meet a few others down south.

don't want them waiting around too long for us.

i've heard from cathy on the route.
keep in mind that not all will be wanting to do the distance.

she is wanting to meet some friends from down south to join us as well.
here goes all the info i have.

it's alot of info so be patient.

Here's the map I came up with. You can click on it to get a closer view. The one thing in this route that did not work for me was taking the Mt. Evans Road, which is hwy103 to Bergen Park...so, ignore the highlighted area on this map that goes over I-70 and follow the hwy103 route to Bergen Park. Hope this helps.

Hi guys,

Just registered, so please forgive me for not having an avatar, etc. under my profile, yet. I wanted to chime in here, so everyone has an idea of what I hope to do.

Thanks for posting the route Mayo.

I was talking with members of the other forum I'm on (Colorado Sportbike Club) who are in the Springs and they are interested and eager to meet up in Central City/Blackhawk. I haven't ridden with them before, but thought it might be a fun thing to do. After meeting up for lunch, we can take the route that follows hwy103 over Mt. Evans, to Bergen Park and then to Morrison to get some riding in with the southern peeps of the CSC. I think it would be fun and I'm no whimp when it comes to long rides.

Anyone wanting to break off at anytime is fine by me too. I'm just looking to having fun and sharing that fun with lotsa good people.

I'll put up my profile later.

W00t! 2 weeks and counting....
