Where ya gonna be Charles? I was planning on heading to Mt Mitchell Saturday or Sunday, but it appears the BRP is closed there so we might be going more towards Table Rock State park area.

Catch you guys later,
Robert

Jeff said he'll probably ride down too. We'll make definite plans when it gets closer.

the parkway is closed from the west coming from Asheville to Mount Mitchell. From the east you can go I-40 to Marion to 80 and get their from thatway near Burnsville. I was up there 3 weeks ago and it was perfect.

Yes Dave, Jeff is coming since that is me. lol Wife coming to.

So, what did you do when you rode past???

There's also blockage just above Blowing Rock. Replacing a bridge, I believe.

there is but it detours off the parkway down to the Lowes in Boone and you turn left to head towards Blowing Rock and can get back on the parkway there. It isnt bad. But the fastest way to Mt. Mitchell is 77 to 40 to Marion to 80. The overlook on top is closed for repairs but is suppose to open soon.

Where's the next place to pick up the parkway going south from MM? if you have to come down 80, can you pick it up in Asheville, or do they route you around the north side someplace?

The Blue Ridge Parkway is open to Mount Mitchell from the northern access only via highway 80. All southern Parkway access (from Asheville) will be closed into the summer season due to a retaining wall failure. To reach the park from Asheville, take I-40 E. to 70-E at Old Fort. Take 70 to 80-N to the Parkway. Head south on the Parkway to state highway 128 (Mount Mitchell State Park road).

yeah, that's to get to MM, but if I'm heading south, do you know where they are detouring to? I'm not familiar with the roads north of the parkway to know if they are going that direction, or taking traffic down 80, then west on 70 and pick up the parkway someplace in Asheville?

I'll have to find out because our trip on 9/18 we're planning to take the parkway down. I guess it's no biggie because we're not going to get lost or anything, but I was just curious.

This thread started out as a plan for nc riders ( plus anyone else) to meet at Morrow Mountian on sept.27th. for a meet and greet and a eating out afterwards! Now the thing has turned out to be which direction to ride the blue ridge parkway!! Now what's the deal on Morrow Mountian!?
