I came to a COMPLETE stop, and I have great balance. I had been stopping all day long, putting my feet down at the very last minute, typically AFTER the bike had already stopped. But the road was uneven, much lower on the left side than on the right. I put my left foot down and couldn't touch, so I shifted my weight to the right side, hoping my foot would find the ground, but I shifted my weight too much and the bike began a sudden, HEAVY lean to the right. It fell against my leg, and I grabbed the handlebar, hoping [unrealistically] that with one hand I could stop it from falling. As soon as common sense hit me, and I remember how little upper body strength I possess, I figured it was gonna fall no matter what attempts I made, but I still wanted to keep the damage to a minimum. So I held it off the ground long enough for it to be only inches from the ground, and let it drop. With Bret and David [ispeed77] stopping alongside me, I threw up my arms in defeat. My left leg is killing me. There's a bruise already forming, a small cut in my calf, and a large bump under the skin. I'm dreading tomorrow morning when the pain will really set it.My pride is hurt much more tho. 9 hours on the bike and it was the end of the ride that did it.
