Default Scorpion Helmets

Hey All,

Just wondering if anyone has given this brand helmet a try-I'd be interested in hearing your report.

http://www.scorpionusa.com/

Apparently they are trying to compete with Shoei and Arai-but their most expensive is approx. $190. Plus they have different patterned helmet liners-very cool!

Any input would be appreciated.

Cheers,
K

I've been hearing a LOT of good things about these helmets on various forums - price, quality, noise, venting - all getting good marks for the money. I'm tempted to try one out, but am happy with my RF-1000 at the moment.

One negative:

I went to try on a Scorpion today. The XXL Scorpion is not nearly as big (not even close) as the HJC XXL. I cannot wear a Scorpion XXL. It won't even go over the crown of my skull. The HJC, on the other hand, is probably a smidge loose, but at least it doesn't cause pain. I still have a headache from trying to put on a Scorpion.

I'd love to have one. It's a great deal for the price. It just doesn't fit people with my head size or shape. Looks like it's gonna be an HJC.

I'm going to go try out a Scorpion "L" and an "XL". I think I could have gotten by with a "L" HJC. My "XL" seems maybe a bit large. I just wish there was someone who carried them a bit closer to me.

I dont think I have anyone who carries them in my state... which is a shame, cause I was thinking about getting a Scorpion when it comes time to start rebuying gear...

There are many listings for them on eBay, both the EX400 and the EX700. I'm reading more and more positive reviews on these (most notably in Motorcycle Gear Review where there wasn't one negative review out of over 50) and am tempted to try one out now just to test the anti-fog feature. My morning commutes are cold, and it would be nice to not have to raise my shield at every red light. For $150, I suppose you can't go wrong since they are Snell and DOT certified.

I know they're big on ebay, and theres an azmotorsports site that carries the full line... but my thing is that I want to try one on before I buy one... it would suck to have to send it back cause the sizing is different than my old HJCs

OK, I was able to get a Scorpion EX700 Fury brand new on eBay for $110. It will ship out this Tuesday. I figure at that price, you can't go wrong based on the reviews in MCN, Motorcyclist, and others. I'll post up when it comes in and I've had a chance to give it a good ride.

Amazingly, no one bid on this one. The shop had 14 of them up for auction in various sizes and colors, and this is the one I wanted - my size and matches my gear. Some of the others went for as much as $175 - guess I lucked out - auctions/bidding less active on the Holiday weekend maybe? I emailed them to ask which shield comes with it, and if it came with a bag - had a reply a couple hours later.

if the reviews are what they say and the price is mid to low $100 range then im gonna be lookin at one for my next helmet. Anyone know how they are weight wise? thats one issue with the HJC I dont like compaired to Shoei etc and Id love to have a helmet that in 50 degree weather at night still doesnt fog on me.

You got a great deal! I can't wait to hear how you like it.

I tried to get to a shop this weekend to try some on, but all the local bike stores were closed Sunday & Monday-sheesh!

It depends on the model. The 700 is lighter than the 400. The 700 is on par with the Shoei RF series in weight comparison.

How much of a weight difference is there between the 700 and the 400? The price jumps up a bit between those models and if it's not a huge difference, I'd be more inclined to look at the 400. In addition, while they are both Snell and DOT rated, the 400 actually did better in the Motorcyclist test. That's three tests OK'ing the 400.
