I'm not looking for an overprice aerodynamic sportbike specific backpack, though I do ride a sportbike, don't want a tank bag btw.
I wanted a camelback but was wondering if anyone had any preferences or dislikes on generic backpacks in general esp. the camelback line. The zippers seemed cheap(seemed but don't know if they were)on the camelback. And obviously that line is made for hikers and mountainbikers so asking the store help if its durable may not be the source that I need for true info. School me up...

What part of New Jersey? I'm originally from up in the NW corner.
Anyhoo, the more durable backpacks of decent size I've used (and occasionally still do) came from, believe it or not, my local community college's bookstore. 100% leather, heavy duty stitching and zippers to handle the weight of several college textbooks, a couple exterior pouches for phone, ipod, etc., carrying handle as well as shoulder straps. I like 'em. edit: I use 3m's Scotchgard or Campdry to keep them waterproof. |

Yea I saw a pack on kneedraggers.com that look pritty good and got high ratings and allot of reviews 79bucks, also had a place for helmet that looked pritty tough. But I wanted something with a water bladder, any ride over 30min. and I get drymouth. I'm not a student so I was looking for something maybe smaller than what you would use for 3 or 4 school books. I think I'm just going to pick something up from the Rameys Outdoors and see if I like it.
Would love a place to put extra helmet though.

check out some of the dakine backpacks. they use the nalgene hydration system, similar to camelback.
i have a smaller one that i bought for mtn biking but i find myself using it on occasion while riding my zx6r, although it doesnt have much storage. im thinking about buying a bigger one so i can use it daily. they have a lot of cool designs, you should check them out. |

ive got this one. DAKINE : NOMAD . Its made for mountain biking so its capable of holding a mx style helmet, you can see in one of the pictures. its not a perfect fit with full face helments but ive done it on several long rides when i had to go home with the paseenger helmet and no passenger. just trying to give you another option besides some of the weird looking hiking hydration packs. you can also try just buying the actual bladder from the camelbacks and rigging it into the backpack of your choice. all these hyrdration packs have is compartment to hold the bladder and a hole to run the tube out of the pack...ive thought about constructing one on my own but i really like some of the da kine ones...and you can also use them for biking, snowboarding, hiking, etc... |

Okay I was woundering where to get just a bladder. I'm going to buy the bag from kneedraggers that has a fullface net and a place for a bladder. Then get the bladder from camelbak. Thanks I'll let all know what the $ total is and my opinion of the set-up.

I'll obviously have to wait to give a report on the pack and set-up. But the pack does accept a waterbladder. From what I saw on the dakine vs. camelbak websites the camelbak bladder is more user friendly and has more variations to choose from than dakine. Thats why I'm going with the camelbak bladder. Okay I'll let you all know how it goes... thanks If someone sees a better set-up please post. Pics would be appreciated bc you really can't tell the dimentions of a pack from a generic internet site picture, and they usually only list volume of the pack not the actual measurements.

I use this bag and find it awesome
Tom Bihn Brain Bag Notebook Backpack Review I got mine for free, so it wasn't like I went searching for a motorcycle bag or anything. The first time I wanted to ride into work I was looking around for a bag with the most straps and saw this in my basement. It has the standard 2 straps for your shoulders, one chest clasp, and one waist clasp. Good size to hold plenty of extra gear ( I ride into work with laptop, normal shoes, spare clothes) and it still has room left over. The main straps have plenty of length to clear my 6' 2" 230lb frame wearing my Olympia jacket with room to spare. |

CORTECH TOURMASTER BACKPACK + 100OZ INSULATED CAMELBAK BLADDER REVIEW-Got the pack yesterday, bladder today.
Pros.-Fits full 100oz insulated bladder with provision for hose retention, you can easily pull extra hose out to drink and push hose back into the pack. The helmet feature can't be beat, there is nothing that you could do on or off bike to lose the helmet. I see no way for the helmet to be scratch while in the pouch. No storage room is lost to the extra helmet function. I was able to fit a full size laptop with full waterbladder in the main pouch together with some room for charger or whatever. The 2nd pouch which isn't much smaller I have yet to need to use, but I would put a pritty good tool kit or something in there. Dispite the ability to fitt all this stuff The pack never hit the bottom of my helmet nor was it bouncing off the seat. Cons-The waterbladder hose provision is on the right side so if you wanted to use in motion than you would have to remove your throttle hand put/retract hose into pack. Also the remaining straps were unnessarily to long(the leftovers), and the upper chest strap was also too long. I remedied these issues by setting the pack up and zip-tieing the strap leftovers so they wouldn't beet me and my helmet while riding. I looped the upperchest strap arround the shoulder strap once and regained the need adjustability. Neutral-I'm not sure of the waterproofness if you were to get rained on with electronics or laptop in pack. But scotch gaurd would remedy any fears of that. I will send any pics to pm or email on request with the pack loaded. If any problems arrise than I will post them.

Hmm... I have a Nike backpack I wear when carrying a decent sized load. I keep a Nike drawstring gympack stashed under my seat for lighter loads and so I always have a pack with me(great for grabbing a burger on the way home). I'll probably grab a Fieldsheer helmet bag when I finally pick up a second lid so I can just keep that stashed under my seat as well. On second thought, I've carried home two 12packs in my backpack before, so I suppose a helmet might fit without too much of a hassle.

I look at some general backpacks. May work ok with helmet.
I was surprised to see how expensive regular backpacks are though, thats why I got the cortech pack. Its the same price, and came in like 3 days, but I had time to wait for it.
