Default Manufacturers to avoid.

For any of us who is in the market for riding apparell, I'd like to start a 'process of elimination' of makers of shoddy products. I feel that it would be easiest by each contributor to give a 'nightmare' experience about some article of gear they bought and was disappointed by. Keep in mind, that even the best of them has a lemon occasionally. And, we as buyers, make mistakes too. But, if you have an experience that can undeniably be contributed to just plain 'junk', we would all benefit from your misery. For starters, I have a jacket that was made by 'Allstate Leather'. This jackets logo is the American flag emblazoned across the outline of the continental U.S.A. But, it came with an 'inspected by' ticket written in some middle-eastern script. Not that there's anything wrong with that. I'm all for supporting the world economy. However, the fake YKK zippers had aluminum teeth. Aluminum? In a ZIPPER? Get real! One of the pocket zippers failed immediately, and the main zipper failed within one year. So, my first on the list of shame is 'Allstate Leather'. They are truly one to avoid.

On the other hand, I also just purchased a 1stGear Scout. THIS is truly a masterpiece of biker wear. It is probably one of the best engineered, best built, best warranted articles of biker wear I have ever owned. Read the details and decide for yourself, and you can quote me on it, it's worth the investment.

I have an Allstate vest, and it is OK, but it was their top of the line model. All of their stuff seems to be made in Pakistan, and I would say stay away from anything from this country, the sizing is truly a nightmare.

Everything else I have tried in all my years have been good, other than a mesh jacket or two being loose in the armor areas.

Got a Toy Run in Boone at 11 at the Boone Mall today (Sat OCt 3rd). Should come by, if interested we have people meeting at 3 mile and 221 at around 9:15 to 9:30, and I will be by there around 8:45 or so.

As a matter of fact, I believe that I will stop there for gas. Hmm.
