Hey Everyone!
I am going to be going to Phoenix for a few days in November-we're renting Harleys and touring Sedona, Grand Canyon, etc. Since it's going to be a bit chilly, I think I'll bring a full face helmet with me. I've needed to buy a new one for awhile, but since I know that I'll want to be listening to music on my Ipod , I'd like to get a helmet that is comfortable with earphones. Any suggestions-either on headphones or helmet or both? Keep in mind that they'll be in my ear for hours at a time, so it's gotta' be comfortable. Thanks! K

I have these Koss headphones plugged into my mp3 player under my full face and they work great. enough volume to hear the tunes well, but not enough to drown out traffic noise (gotta protect yourself from yourself). They are pretty darn comfy too and they never come off accidentally. the only rub is that they tear your ears off when you take the helmet off. other than that a great product. I'd suggest the sport clip style like these as a starting point, they tend to be more comfy because they don't use your ear canal to stay in, they use the cartilage.

I've been using these ones from Radio Shack under a Shoei RF-1000 full face with my iPod. They work great. Small enough that it is not a problem to get helmet on and off without ripping them out of your ears. Sound great too. Good luck! Ride safe.

hmm.. I haven't been crazy about the Ear Buds that came with my Ipod-do you think these are more comfortable?
I didn't even think to go look at Radio Shack... Thanks for the suggestion! Cheers, K

I just got some of those custom molded earplugs--the kind where they inject the material into your ear canal with a big syringe.

I know the ones you're talking about-I saw them being fitted at a Bike Show. But, they are too pricey for me.
I can't wait to hear your report back once you get them w/the speakers!

My wife and I both use over - the - ear...ear buds with external volume control and they work ok for us. Only $9.99 at Radio Shack and comfortable for long periods of time.

To expand on Ken's post, here is the Sony Fontopia earbuds that are black. Hence, no white "iPod" price markup. Same thing though. These are excellent buds that push into the ear canal vs resting in the ear "cup" like the ones that come with the iPod or other MP3 players. They also make the 71 series that has a detachable cable.

I use some sony in-the-ear headphones I picked up for about $40. They don't use noise cancellation but they do act like earplugs. They came with 3 different sizes of rubber thingees? that help them fit into your ear. I like them because I don't have to blast my ears out with the volume to hear the music over the wind. On the downside it is hard to hear anything else except the motor. Mostly I feel the bike running. I can hear it and some traffic noises but everything is muted except the music. I think I can hear surrounding noises better than I've made it sound. I also have some deaf friends who ride and they literally can't hear anything. It's all feel.

also, if you can, buy earplugs that have a volume adjuster on the wire so that you can adjust the volume while riding... this helped me out tons... instead of reaching in for the actual mp3 device and turning the volume up or down... just grab on the wire... just my .02 cents...
