Default Winter Gloves...

Sorry if this has been discussed before, but I looked through the 6 pages here and didn't find a discusion on winter gloves. This morning in northern NJ, the temp was 42. I have good gloves for temps above 55, but need something for cold weather, down to about 20. I plan on riding all winter, except for snow and rain. I bought a pair of ski gloves at walmart, which kept my hands warm enough, but felt slippery on the throttle, and I didn't feel like I had good control of it. Also, they were a little bulk, which meant getting to the levers was a little tricky. So, any recommendations? I read the review on MotorCycle Cruiser and am thinking about the Tourmaster PolarTek, TourMaster WinterTek or the (please forgive me) Harly Davidson Winter gloves...

HD, BMW and Triumph all sell very good winter and foul weather gear. TourMaster is decent stuff, I have a set of the boot covers they make and am happy with them. Snowmobile gloves work well also, but are a bit bulky. I've got people coming into the shop now buying snowmobile grip/lever "boots", a mitten set that is attached to the handlebars. Nightmare to install, but can be worth it.

Just cause Harley Davidson quit making motorcycles in 1964 doesn't mean the gear is bad.

Have you seen these gloves? They look and sound like a good solution to extreme cold.

OOPS! I'll try the pic again. click on the pic to go directly to the glove link.

I have a pair of www. FoxCreekLeather.com Thinsulate lined gauntlents for winter. If I get into the higher elevations (7000') I wear silk liners inside them. The gloves are deer skin & very soft & flexible.

I wear Teknic winter gloves. They say 'Power Skin' on them, and are leather with (I think) deer skin palms. Very comfortable and tactile. They're good down to about 40 degrees at which point my hands start getting cold after about 30 minutes at 55 mph. To ride at lower temps, I'm going to try to find some thin nylon 'over-golve' mitts. That should help keep the wind off and the cold from bleeding through.

If you find something that works for you let me know. I'd love to know what other riders are doing to stay warm.

Default electric heat

The only way to not have cold hands when it's below 40 or so is to invest the money fir some electric heated gloves. I have gerbings, even the fingers are heated. Works great. http://www.gerbing.com/divmc/clothing/glovesg3.html

does anyone have any experience with Coldwave Sno Star Snowmobile Gloves or Arctiva MPG Gloves. How well do they work at 30 degrees and 70 miles per hour?

I don't have an electrical port on my bike, so I was thinking about getting something like this:

+1

A guy I know just sent my boyfriend a WONDERFUL pair of waterproof, windproof, weatherproof Triumph winter gloves. WOW! They're incredible! They're black leather gauntlets, and they're super warm and soft.

My only worry is that they're a bit bulkier than non-winter gloves, and some sensitivity might be lost... but then again, if your fingertips are freezing off, you'll lose some sensitivity anyway!

there are either 2 or 3 spots on your bike where you can tap into for something like that. i think there are two under the seat and one at the front of the tank. just a thought, but those battery gloves are definitely cheaper.

They make liners which you could put under your summer gloves

like this:
http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com...106&Division=1

They actually do a pretty decent job of keeping my hands warm in the cold. But here in CA my cold is like 50 =P. Not sure how well they'd keep you warm down at 20degrees...

yeah, they probably do a great job in your case, just to take off the edge, but would offer little warmth in the colder weather. that's ok, just saves you from having to buy another pair of gloves.

Yup. I also wear the Gerbing G3 gloves. I don't like the feeling of bulky gloves when riding. No dexterity and feel at the controls.

The Gerbings are very comfortable and provide a lot of feel, not to mention keep your hands warm and toasty.

If you need more info, I have a review of them.

very good. it looks like you've put some miles on it, very good. i know those things are the most comfortable, so its nice to see someone actually "riding" one.

I notice a lot of people sacrifice protection for warmth when the cold season starts, my advice would be the HD - BMW route as well.. sled or winter gloves are NOT going to hold up to pavement.. With cold roads, leftover sand, salt and ice, i would think you want to keep that protection..
