Default Vega Summit Flip Helmet ???

Hello to all...
Sorry if this has already been covered, but I was wondering if anyone has had any experience (good or bad) with the Vega Summit Flip helmet ?
I have read several posts on helmets but nothing on this one in particular.
The price is very appealing, not to many color choices though, but I guess you can't really expect any wild looking graphics for that kind of money. Thanks in advance for any and all help in this matter......Have a Great Day!!!! Don

Haven't had any experience with it myself, but WebBikeWorld gave it a favorable review.

Hi To All....
thanks Spam for the link.... looks like a good review.
Does anyone have any info on any brand of flip style helmet. I kind of like the versatility of that type of helmet....
Being in Ohio I don't have to wear one but have a bad feeling about not.....guess I have been very lucky so far taking the quick trips without..
Any info on the flips or modular helmets will be greatly appreciated............
Thanks as always.... Don

My gal has the HJC full face flip helmet and really likes it. The quality seems good, and it isn't too heavy.

Default Helmet update !!!!

Hi to All......
After much research and looking around I ordered (2) HJC CL-MAX Helmets
The dealer I bought them from informed me that it would be approx. 1 month wait for the Vega Summit II and 1 month was a low ETA. I guess their factory burnt down last year?? and are still trying to supply everyone...
It will be about 1 week to get the HJC's.. Will let you know how I like them after a few days of riding..... Will try to post a pic of my choice
Best to all.......... Don

PS: Is this the helmet you were talking about trikebubble???? Thanks for the advice it was much appreciated

I use the Vega flip front. It is ok as far as comfortable. The padding is good and I really like the flip front. It is not the quietest helmet which is why I'm upgrading to the Nolan.

I've been wearing a VEGA Summit helmet for a few months. I bought it new online. The fit is nice, worked fine until the internal pull wire that operates the release mechanism snapped like a twig. This is what the plastic button pushes on to release the front assembly. In the humble opinion of somebody with a mechanical engineering degree, it's flimsy. Thank God it happend as I was trying to put it ON..... and did not lock the helmet on my head.

But, stuff happens so I contacted Vega to get a replacement wire. here is the response I got, judge for yourself if you think this is customer service:

Quote:
Just because you bought your helmet online doesn’t mean you are exempt from getting parts though the online dealer. I will assist you this time but in the future you need to be pro-active about getting service from the place where you made the purchase, we do not offer service or parts though our warehouse, the dealer is there to serve that purpose.
So, best case, you have to take the thing back to the dealer and pay whatever they want to charge to fix it.... if they even will.

The "local dealer" here which they directed me to use said they have no drawings for the helmets so they have no way to identify the part in question. I don't have the paperwork for the dealer I got it from online so I thought I could get support from the manufacturer and buy a part from them. I never assumed or expected to get anything free, just wanted to get the stinking part.

Some support. Some attitude. I work in customer support. I guess it always bugs the hell out of me when I get treated like this (a way which would get me fired instantly). Basically, like I was a beggar at the back door looking for a handout when I am actually a paying customer. I didn't steal the forking helmet, I paid money for it.

Anyway, just the facts folks.

I was all ready to buy one but I like to try them on first. Maybe the rum has caused electrical paths to cross in my brain but I searched around for a dealer in the San Francisco Bay area. The closest I could find was in Sacramento, about 90 miles from me. Ended up getting a ZOX Nevaro modular from a shop in San Jose. Good fit and quiet. About the same price range.

i got a vega modular too but not the that particular model. it was about 130. its been a decent helmet. its ok with comfort but gets a little heavy on long rides. it's definitely noisy and lets a good bit of air in even with the vents closed. in fact i cant really tell a difference between the mouth vent being opened or closed. the air is nice in the summer...really really bad on those cold mornings.

Ok, I'm coming in a bit late here but...I bought one online. It's huge!! I can fit my whole hand under the chin area and wave my hand around on the inside. I still have to take my glasses off when trying to put on the helmet or taking it off. Between my chin and the guard is about 4 fingers wide. Are all moduals like this? I was really looking to a full face helmet where I didn't have to take my glasses on and off but this is not good. Thanks

I've been using one for over a year. Overall it's a good value for the money.
Fit, padding, ventilation, and overall comfort are good. The face shields are top quality.
It is a bit noisy, and the latch mechanism is cheap.
I'd buy another just because it's cheap and it certainly offers as good protection as a $300.00+ helmet.
