Agreed. What CAN be discerned is that there are plenty of inexpensive polycarbonate helmets that do a very good job of protection from the average impact that the far majority of accident victims would encounter. After reading it, I personally feel more confident in the DOT vs SNELL rating.

OK here's the thing I find fishy about that whole thing.
Motorcyclist Magazines largest advertiser is Parts Unlimited. While AGV sales remained constant, Icon helmets were good, but Z1R's sales were dismal. A few days BEFORE that magazine came out, my Parts Unlimited rep showed up with that article laminated telling me I should order Z1R helmets because sales were going up because of that article. Some of the highest scoring helmets are OWNED by Parts Unlimited, Z1R, Icon and they are the largest distributor of AGV. Hmmmmm those did the best in most catagories.. No Shoei? Yeah they didnt send any for the test, umm ok. Arai Tracker GT? WHy not a Signet, Quantum, Astral or RX7? Why would Arai send an older model helmet designed specifically for flat track racing for that test? Hmmm I dont know if anyone remember back in the 80's when Snowmobile mags got flat out busted for having their personal largest advertiser's machines win the "shootouts" in their mags. Just seems fishy to me. |

Check out Dirtrider.
Honda always wins the shootouts. KTM may be faster, Yamaha may have a better suspension, Kawi may have the quickest lap times, Zuki may be the most nimble.... But if that's the case, then they have a "Rider subjective" graph that tilts the score enough to bump Honda over the edge.

It's like this..... If you have a helmet that fits well. Then you will wear it. Arai helmets are very good .But do not fit my head..... On the other hand I have a Shoei head. A RF-1000 fits real well. I feel great riding with it. So try on a few and see what shape your melon is. Get something that fits !!!! Helmets have saved my life Offroad and one the street a handfull of times.Allways wear a helmet

I look at it this way, " Any helmet worn is better than any helmet not worn. " You really have to put the doggone thing on to make it work. Any protection is better than none.
