I wanted to write my thoughts about the BMW Transition Touring Boot. I bought these boots about a year ago when I started to get paranoid about my ankles getting crushed in an off. I looked into some racing boots, but since I'm a commuter, I needed something I could comfortably walk in. These boots supposedly provide the protection typically seen in race boots combined with the comfort and waterproofness required of a touring boot.
Regardng their comfort, although they were a bit stiff when I first got them, they have become very comfortable boots. Much more comfortable than my first boots the Tour Master Solution WP Road Boot (which were uncomfortable and not very waterproof). They have a convenient speed lace system, which lets you tighten the boot easily to get a good fit. The way they're hinged makes walking easy, definitely not like walking in a ski boot or what I imagine a racing boot might feel like. Regarding their durability, they have held up well, especially the sole. Regarding their waterproofness, today was the first day I was caught in a downpour in these boots and I am happy to report that in combination with rain pants covering the tops of the boot, my feet stayed perfectly dry, which is more than I can say about the Tour Master boot I mentioned earlier. Despite being so waterproof, they are quite comfortable heatwise and my feet were comfortable even when temps cracked 100 although this perception may have been due to the fact that the rest of me was pretty miserable. Regarding their appearance, well, they are pretty dorky looking. Three out of four ain't bad, right? Fortunately for me, I have not had to test BMW's safety claims. Anyway, if you're looking for a supposedly safe, comfortable, waterproof boot, but aren't too occupied with looking cool, you should definitely check these boots out. Hope this is helpful. From the BMW website: A safety system in your shoe In close collaboration with Swiss orthopedics, BMW Motorrad offers the first motorcycle boot with BIOMEX PROTECTION® System. The synthetic sleeve integrated closely into the upper material supports and stabilizes the foot. In addition, it offers optimum impact protection and improved damping. Features # Material mix with Cordura®, full grain cowhide leather and flexible synthetic grid construction # Very stable touring boots # BIOMEX PROTECTION® joint stabilization technology, well established in rollerblading, hiking and snowboarding # Ankle padding, shin and heel protection # Plastic sections for impact protection on front and side # Windproof and waterproof, high active breathing with GORE-TEX® # Fuel-and oil-resistant rubber sole with 3 sections of varying hardness grades for perfect grip and maximum stability. # Certification as protective boot for professional riders according to the DIN EN 13634 norm # Extra flat shift reinforcement # Removable washable inner sole Leaning position for your feet The natural movement of the foot joint is not exactly at right angles but slightly offset. This is taken into account by the joint of the BIOMEX® axle. As a result, there is less resistance, an improved roll response and walking comfort is noticeably increased. A firm stand at all times Thanks to BIOMEX PROTECTION® in combination with the newly developed DAVOS sole. The division of the rubber sole into 3 zones enables optimum grip with maximum stability.
