Yeah, the hands are definitely the killer when it comes to riding. I need a better set of winter gloves too. Maybe I'll get some in the near future.

My head and neck stay relatively warm with the neck portion of my outer jacket blocking the wind.
I need something for my neck because air continually goes in that area. When i would ride in sacramento i would have the same problem. I just don't have a long enough collar for this long *** ostridge neck.

+1million. I've got leather gloves, but they do little help in the cold, particularly on the fronts of my fingers. My hubby has the little hand guards on front of his, and he's got power heating grips, and even HIS hands get a little cold. Still, some heated grips might be better for me than nothing.

one thing I have found for keeping warm...under armour, just make sure to buy the cold weather variety I have ridden with this stuff under jeans and a long sleeve tshirt (and jacket of course)to about 30 degs and stayed nice and warm.

For my hands, I have a set of riding gloves that use. They're regular Joe Rocket gloves, but I wear my thick snowboard gloves over them. They're a little on the cheaper side (got them for free during my time in Iraq). I think they're like a 20-40gram thinsulate...and I can last a good...45min to an hour in 38 degree weather. But then I need to take a brake. I'm looking to get a nice 80-100gram pair here soon. Especially since I should be getting my new bike in less than a month and it'll be FREEZING out.

Do you ride with a full face helmet? If you do, then I would definitely suggest a neck gaitor. You can place it over your collar and under your helmet...so wind won't get down into your jacket as easily. And my helmet keeps the top portion snug with the padding holding it in place. Works WONDERS when you're riding and it's chilly.

I work the nightshift and have been having to ride home when temperature has been around 27F-25F recently. My bikes got a decent size windshield on it. I wear thermals. I've got a Power Trip Mojave jacket, that keeps me very warm when I wear it with the liner (which is suprising considering it's a mesh jacket). I also wear a full face HJC helmet with an Underarmour Cold Gear balaclava. My hands are my only complaint. I wear a pair of Joe Rocket Sonic gloves and my fingers get ice cold on the drives home. It was 25F outside Sunday night and by the time I'd made it my house, I'd lost sensation in my fingertips. The left hand suffers the worse, mainly because my fingers are out there covering the clutch. I'm still looking for a solution to the finger problem. Gonna hit the sporting goods store this weekend (hopefully I won't be crushed by the last minute shoppers) and see what I can find.

i recently got a bunch of gerbings stuff - the gloves are great

I dont think pant liners are a good idea - get the whole pants

jacket liner is ok, but im beginning to think i should have gotten a whole jacket

but pants liner is not bright in my opinion, you sweat in them, then wear them all day - not cool

I was actually looking at getting a set of gloves...that's my main concern...maybe something for the legs...but my upper body is fine when riding.

Alright im at a point where i will be riding in the cold. 40-45 degrees to be exact. My hands were the coldest point and my nose.

Would long johns, sweats, be enough for my arms, and legs. But for my hands; would cashmere or wool be better? i wore cashmere socks and i was fine with 50-60 degree weather, but not 40...

So give me some advice folks. I have till tomorrow

Hey w1ngzer0
you need something that stops the wind. leather doesn't have to be thick to help. if you have leather gloves then thin liners will make all the difference. i have leather yard gloves that i wear, my hands are fine until it drops under 40 then i need more. i have recently discovered liners made from silk material they use for insulation under ski wear. i haven't had occasion to need them since i discovered them.

If it stayed in that temp range I'd ride more. I have Joe Rocket 6.0 jacket with a sweat shirt it's good down to about thirty I have a pair of Olimpia all season gloves keep my hands toasty to about forty my problem is my legs, I know that it's the wind and even with long johns they get cold in the low forties. Going to get a pair of alter-ego riding pants that should put me in good shape for anything down to forty. The full face does well at keeping my head comfortable.

Over the winter I rode quite a bit

I did this because I had either my Atomic 2.0 joe rocket jacket and large warm alpine star gloves

OR if it was < 30 degrees

I had on the heated jacket liner then the leather or joe rocket over that with heated gloves

if it was 25 i rode to work with jaket liner, pants and gloves all turned on

thats how i made it

Now i will start a thread on warm riding - its due

First let me explain what I wear now so you all know:

1. Joe Rocket alter ego 2.0 textile jacket (fully loaded with pads and all)
2. HJC-cl max helmet
3. Some (they are not that good - alpine stars is the name) ST-1 Large / 10
4. Tee-shirt
5. Jeans

I noticed a few things this brisk morning on the way in to work

This is the parts that appear to get cold first: In order of coldness and annoying ness

1. The spot right below the helmet on my neck - I could wear one of those cotton neck thingy's - was wondering what you all do for this spot - helmet is shut and jacket is up all the way - air still gets in there.
2. Arms - Maybe its time for a heated liner to go inside my joe-rocket?
3. Fingers / hands - I love joe-rocket gear - how do the nitrogen gloves look to you folks?

If all of the above stays warm then I am pretty good to go - but if it gets real cold from what I remember this is what goes next:

4. Legs - Maybe time for alter-ego pants from joe - rocket?
5. Last but not least - BOOTS - anybody have any warm boots and do they like um?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I heard a lot from riders to wear those latex gloves under the heavy gloves - will stop the wind from getting in.... but i tried this and it made my hands sweat badly - actually made them colder.

thanks in advance, Ken
Hey Ken
Check out Rain-Off Overgloves for keeping your hands warm and/or dry. They pull over your normal riding gloves when things turn nasty. Let nothing in. You can ride for hours.

I suggest you look at the apparel that's made for those who ride strictly in the coldest weather - snowmobilers
E Bay has tons of stuff
I picked up a snowmobiling outfit for $25 that's not bad (synthetic fiber fill)
I will probably go for one that's stuffed with real down though, which should be comfortable at temps in the 30s

I need warm socks (not electric) that will keep my feet and toes warm. I can't wear wool. Any suggestions?
