Default Jackets for the 'full-figured' guy

I know, ANOTHER jacket thread! ...but I think I have a different spin than the others, so started a new thread.

This comes from another jacket discussion:

Try being fat for a while ...talk about no upside, although I could probably diet whereas not much you can do to get shorter.

Ok, I'll say it, I'm fat ...not morbidly obese fat, but big (mostly in the stomach and, unfortunately, not caused by beer). I don't make any excuses for it and admit that I could try a little harder to eat right and diet, but I've dealt with it for pretty much my entire life (my mom says I never lost my baby fat ).

My problem is, obviously, finding gear that 1) fits me and 2) is safe. I've seen lots of guys around my size, and bigger, simply give up on finding anything in the 'retail' market, opting to go with vests or something equally loose fitting and unprotective and not sure I want to go that route.

Most of the jackets I've been able to find and try on taper down at the waist ...not really conducive to my body style. My current all-leather jacket is -ok- but it was the largest one I could buy (56) and fits just a little too snug than I'd like.

I'm looking for a mesh or textile 'cruiser-style' (nothing that looks like a box of crayons threw up all over it) with a liner to cover the widest ranges of temps, probably size 58. Cost is really not a consideration for me if it fits comfortably and at least gives the impression of protection, although having a jacket custom-made would be a bit too extreme.

Anyone have suggestions for jackets for this 'full-figured' guy?

Ive had to outfit quite a few "big boys" in the last couple years...

Check out Powertrips jackets.

Nice textiles with armor, and the nice part is even the guys that took a 5X loved the jackets because they fit, and not like a tent or moomoo.

Its one of the few that Ive personally seen that do fit so well.

Got a link, KZBob? Did a Google on "Powertrips motorcycle jackets" and came up with bupkiss.

Thanks RR for that Biker Emporium link. It has an entire section for "Big & Tall" and even sells the exact same jacket I have now in the bigger size!

My brother has put in inserts for a couple guys and lace up the sides for fit. Minor custom work.

I just bought a RiverRoad Laughlin Jacket in 4x.
The specs looked like it would fit...
Then reality kicked in...

It's an awesome jacket but about 2-4 inches too small across the middle.
And the forearms are a bit tight.
And the elbow pads seem like they're a little too low.
Man, I need to lose weight!!! <sigh>
Don't know what to do: Return the jacket or wait and drop 20 lbs.
This sucks! I really like the jacket.

I would like to get my mitts on some sorry little Oriental guy that figures "one size fits all"!

I have a Joe Rocket 5X and a Joe Rocket Mesh 4X and they seem to fit quite well. The mesh one allows the fat to ooooooooze out of the pores!

It is tough this being this size- when you go down to the beach those goofs from Greenpeace keep trying to throw you back into the water! Fightin' them off is wearing me out!

I had an 1100 Virago and I looked like I was riding a shetland pony. One guy said, 'Is that a scooter you're riding?' End of Virago- on to Nomad.

I hope you find the right jacket. I had leather, but that is so heavy and uncomfortable when wet or cold- will never go there again!

Happy hunting,

Bedouin
