hello I am a newb to all this and I just received my first motorcycle jacket and am wondering if it fits right.
I am normally a large in shirts and stuff so I ordered a large. the jacket comes down to my waist but feels sort of short is that normal or should it go below my waist line? the arms when standing up arms down go half way down my hand and when arms are out stretched they come to wrist? is that sound right? thanks. The arms are correct, the rest depends upon the cut of the jacket. A supersport (racing cut) jacket typically comes down only to the waist; the supersport cut jacket is designed to be zipped up to a pair of sport pants, making a tied-together set.
A street sport jacket typically comes down to just below the waist, usually about the bottom of your belt or maybe just a bit further down. These jackets are designed for "typical" street wear and therefore are cut just a tad longer for either zipped, matched pant or street pant (jeans, etc) wear. A cruiser jacket is typically cut longer than the street sport, say mid-hips or so. This is do reduce the wind blast up the jacket while in the more rolled-foward body attitude that most cruisers put you in. The longest cut is the dual-sport / adventure cut, like the Aerostich Darien. This cut typically goes to the bottom of the hips (like a sport coat) and is designed to offer maximum protection from the elements (wind, cold, water). |

thanks for the replies. I am a regular I guess I am only 5'9. I think it fits fine I am just not used to jackets that short. I would be worried that if I got a bigger size the sleeves would be way to long. I sat on my bike with the jacket on and it felt comfortable so I think I will give it a go. thanks again.

The jacket should fit right while on the bike, so the sleeves sound correct. The waist, as mentioned, varies on style. Most end above the waist unless it's a 3/4 length. This, again, is so it's more comfortable on the bike and so it can be zippered into pants.
The important part is the tightness of the jacket elsewhere. You want the jacket to be form fitting, but not cutting off circulation. You don't want it bunching or twisting in a fall. Most jackets have an adjustment in the sleeves for the armor. Make sure that's tight enough so the armor doesn't move or it could twist under your elbows in a fall and not provide any protection. If that fits alright, the only other point of worry is the jacket riding up in a slide. Unfortunately, that is only fixed by zippering the jacket into a pair of pants. |

That's the real issue to focus on, as its for riding rather than standing around or working. All my riding jackets have the long arm - short waist feel when standing, but are well matched to my natural riding position.
