I'd rather be outfitted in proper gear than wear a "Biker Costume"

That guy's picture must be in the dictionary under Ignorant.

I don't even know this guy that well. He works in the same building i do and we occasionally chat for a second or two.

I know his father rides a Harley but i have never seen him on a bike.

I, personally, think that it is more "noobish" to wear the minimum required gear and think that you will never hit the ground.

I understand that there are many experienced riders that choose not to wear gear, I am not referring to them.

What I am referring to is riders like my brother. He just got his first bike, and refuses to wear any gear except a $25 skid lid. His justification: His skills will protect him.
Skills!? You just started riding you nitwit!

Anyway.

You need to make sure you are comfortable and safe....PERIOD!
It doesn't matter what others think.....although I am guilty a bit for that right now....

You ALWAYS see me wearing my gear in my pictures while riding, which is good. However, we're leaving for Myrtle Beach Bike Week this weekend. Last year you hardly saw a helmet in the thousands of people and bikes!!!! If you wore one, much less a jacket, you stood out and people pointed!!!! I rode pillion last year and went with the crowd, but this year I am riding my own bike. I am NOT comfortable riding without a helmet...however, worrying about how I'll look, I'm not taking my usual FF helmet, and went and bought one of those "lid" type helmets. I HATE that I am worrying about how I'll look there instead of my own safety...

More power to you guys that wear a FF helmant all year round. i can barely wear it in the winter without fogging it up. none the less as much as i sweat in the summer time. i have to wear a half top, to me it rides better. might not be as safe.

i think it is great that you guys wear all that gear, but my FAT A** has a hard time moving in it and soaking my cloths with sweat.

I understand your decision, sometimes it's just easier to go with the flow. Just be extra cautious while on the bike.

Good .... +1

I agree, however I may have done it different... like ... I wear gear cause I read about people who don't in the obituary's

The people at this guys work sound like real A - holes.

Keep doing what you do man, just laugh at them when they try to break you down. And never get on the bike upset or aggravated

Do I have to come across country and smack you?

You have worked so hard on getting your physical self together. It would be a shame to have your face all screwed up because you wanted to "fit in".

You are not a lemming. Please don't throw yourself over the cliff cause everyone else is doing it.

"Called me a noob rider for wearing a jacket. Stated that "If you crash it's not going to do anything for you, it's just going to shred."

Tell them you know of a guy that had a git-off at between 50-60 mph wearing an armor mesh jacket and he had no roadrash or damage to the area protected by the jacket at all.

The jacket didn't shred, In fact, I'd still be using that jacket today if the ambulance crew would not have cut it off of me.

OR just ignore the squid.

But isn't road rash cool? Won't it impress the girls? Doesn't it just scream, "I'm too stupid to protect myself"?

Oh, it screams alright. The Dockers I was wearing didn't hold up so well. Check out my avatar.
