I believe you owe me an appetite and a Lunch Mrs.

Back on track, I have seen many and many motorcycle accidents. From the old loosing balance on a stop light to a dirt bike rider loosing balance at 50 feet in the air. Smart riders may get broken bones, but Foolish riders get broken bones, scars, flesh ripped off, and many other awful injuries.

You keep doing what you are doing. Don't let that person's statement make you want to regret not wearing your gear one day.

Of course, I can't see them.

So I take it you don't want to see the rest of the pics?

I call him my poster child for wearing a helmet.

He has one small scar left from this, but looked pretty horrific for a few weeks after the accident.

Then some **** really ticked me off. Called me a noob rider for wearing a jacket. Stated that "If you crash it's not going to do anything for you, it's just going to shred. You must be a noob rider".

Now mind you, i am a new rider, but whether i have 2 months experience or 20 years, i will never ride a motorcycle without the proper gear.

I shouldn't make too much of it, but it just upset me to hear that. There is so much peer pressure out there to look like the classic biker. Just sad that so many people rather look cool than ride as safe as possible.

Good for you, and stand your ground. There's always some jerk around to spoil a nice day. Keep wearing your gear, and ignore the ones that need ignoring. I wear the same gear you do in 100 degree Oklahoma heat, you'll never see me without it, because it's so much better than road rash.

Point at your head and say "If you have nothing to lose, by all means, leave the helmet home".

I've got a wonderful 8mo old boy that depends on me. I always wear the gear now. Last summer (before fatherhood really got through my helmet) I would be out in the summer wearing shorts, tank top, and sneakers. But I wore a helmet. That will all be changing this year.

Yep. He was trying to jump a two foot spot in the road. Maybe got the bike 6 inches off the ground, and wiped out. His arm was road rashed pretty good also.

But dinner time is coming up, so I won't post those!

Both my wife and I have just bought our first set of bikes and started riding this past weekend. She has ridden before, but I haven't. Very exciting indeed, but reading some of these stories makes me a bit anxious to get out of my neighbourhood.
We both think safety and bought FF helmets, mesh jackets and pants, gloves and boots. The pics of A2Rider's son certainly scares me a bit considering the slow speeds involved. I don't care if I'm all "armoured" up, as long as I have many years of riding ahead of me with my wife.
We are also scheduled to take the Safety Council Riding course and that should boost my confidence and ability some.

I enjoy these forums and look forward to further sharing of opinions, news and info on our favorite past-time.

I'm GLAD to read that all that was suffered was a small scar.

I wrecked couple years ago, with helmet, at 70 mph. I still had 22 stitches in my forehead, and still a scar. Couldnt raise my arm for 6 months. Wish id had a better jacket and wouldnt have had 8 stitched in my arm. IM sure my head would have been crushed like an egg if i hadnt had the helmet.

Welcome to the crazy place. Glad your wife and you have gotten bikes, and will spend some good times cruising the road.

I won't fight with people to wear gear, they can do what they want. I just think life's better without road rash. I would rather replace my jacket then live without the use of a limb.

As a motorcyclist I have the right to come home to my loved ones in the same condition I departed I also have the obligation to do so, I can't predict what may happen but I will be as best prepared for it as I practically can.

Thank you. You're just too sweet of a person to go through anymore bad things in life. I just want you to ride for many more years.
