I feel that no one should hassle another person for the gear they wear.
As long as it meets requirements of the laws in the area you are riding, you or the other person are not breaking any laws. So why give any more thought to their gear. If i want to ride shirtless, in shorts, and flip flops, and a helmet, its legal here so I can. Or if I decide to wear 12 coats layered up, all with full armor, and also 12 pants all layered with armor, and 8 pairs of boots, one in another, thats my choice to. |

Kawasaki 636, "I haven't even got pulled over while passing by cop going 80 on 35mph zone". I believe it would be in your best interest to minimize riding in your aforementioned manner, as I suspect a person can only pass so many law enforcement representatives exceeding the speed limit by more than double, before a person gets to meet a law enforcement representative, or worse...

I know many of us speed from time to time, and I to am guilty of it. But I may do say 5 or 10 over, not 45 MPH over......SCARY |

F 'em. Be comfortable in your gear.
It was 90-something today at lunchtime. I had my lid, mesh jacket, jeans and gloves. Waved at some sleeveless riders on an unamed american motorcycle to no responce. Was it my gear? Probably. But forget road rash, how 'bout skin cancer? I'm lighter than milk toast! |

This time of the year, typical temp at commute hour is 106 F ( or 42 C ) and it feels even hotter when I idle at a stop...or in stop-and-go traffic...and notice the engine heat creeping up on me through the vents in my riding gear.
Regardless, I'm still out there in my FF helmet (black...gotta get decals someday), jacket (mesh), pants (textile with armor), boots and gloves (leather) just sweating up a storm but enjoying the hell outta myself. And when I get on the highway, I forget all about the heat. At that point it's just fun...and feeling a bit safer knowing I got my gear on. Besides, I got a pool and cold beverages waiting for me at home. Gotta love living and riding in the desert. |

I gotta chime in on this one. I am still a new rider and I wear a FF helmet gloves mesh jacket jeans and boots when I ride. I am also an EMT. I have picked up those hardcore riders on the "American" bikes after they lay it down and slide down the roadway. Let me just say this, they are not so hardcore when they are crying in the back of an ambulance on the way to the hospital. Asphalt is NO JOKE! Also, I am a HUGE fan of FF helmets. Most of the guys I have picked up have had pretty bad head and face injuries. It seems to me that the mentality of cruisers is "it's a cruiser" but the reality of it is this, 60 mph is 60 mph no matter what you are riding.
"It's better to walk away is disgust, than to ride away in a ambulance"! Don't even get me started on drinking and riding! |

i just feel much safer in my gear. i couldnt imagine doing the highway ride i did yesterday without gear. bugs hitting me at 70 would HURT without my jacket and FF helmet. got hit on the knuckle by something as well, but barely felt it thanks to my gloves.
i hope i never have to find out if my gear will save my skin, but i wear it all the time just to make sure i do save as much as i can. i wont be comfortable without it! but if you are comfortable in just a helmet, thats ok too. as long as youre comfy!
