Default Redwing Motorcycle Boots, Model 979

Just picked up a pair. I was trying desperately to find a less expensive pair that I liked and found comfortable with, but failed. Tried my first go around with Leatherup. Liked them, but the dual zip model came off too easy and the Loggers were out. I prefer a boot that fits well enough that you can't just pull them off. So, I picked up a pair of these:

Red Wing Shoes

Paid $120 for them at Bob's Cycle Supply. Yeah, spendy, but I know they'll last for a very, very, very long time. At least they'd better! Ha ha!

So far, no cons but have only had them for a day so I'll keep you posted. Here's what I like:

Full grain leather, water resistant, oil resistant, non-slip sole and all that. But, it's a side zip which makes the on and off easy. And, unlike others I've seen, the side zip actually allows you to take them off and on without having to untie! Plus, the zip is on the OUTSIDE, lessening the chances of it scratching the bike while riding. So there you go.

UPDATE: Finally got a ride in with them yesterday and they worked great. Better yet, mother nature decided the bike and I need a bath. But my feet were dry!

I have a pair of Red Wings from back in the late 90's. They're not "motorcycle boots" but they are steel toe, non-slip sole, non-marking, oil-resistant, and all that. They have served me well.

Those 979s look great. I just bought a pair of Rhino zip boots. The retail is only $59.95. They fit great and are comfortable.

$120 is a good price for those 979s. The redwing dealers here in my town sell at MSRP.

I've got a pair and like them alright, but they have no ankle protection at all. If I get the urge to spend (even more) money on gear, I'm getting a better pair of boots that'll actually help in a crash.

The non-slip soles are great. Never had a problem, no matter what I put my foot down in.

Sorry but I can't associate with anything to do with Red Wings right now.

Ha ha! That was quite the whooping they put on Tardy Murco last night! But don't worry...they're from Red Wing Minnesota.

I wear the 967 for work (steel toe, electrical hazard rated) and the 969 for riding.

Both are very nice... had them since September and they are wearing very well and comfortable. The $80 "work boots" that I used to get would be needing new soles and footbeds by now.

I went with those models because they come in "B" widths... I'm actually a 12-AAA by the book... got my mom's feet.

My father is a foreman for Cargill and deals with fertilizer all day. Work boots used to last him a couple months before they'd be destroyed. He's been wearing Red Wings forever and usually gets a good year out of them.

A friend of mine is on his second pair of Red Wing boots now (he wears them all day every day...at work or at home). His first pair lasted him 7 years before the oil and corrosive chemicals wore out the leather...now he's on his second pair (which he's had for 3 years) and on his second set of soles.

Bar none, Red Wing boots are some of the toughest around. Great purchase, and a wise investment I think. If they're just riding boots, I imagine that set will probably last you a good 10 years.
