Default new rider needing a new jacket

I am looking for a decently priced jacket that will offer a decent amount of protection, while still remaining rather inconspicuous. I have checked out a few different brands and style but still havent zeroed in on anything

Also I live in Florida and its hot as hell. I have a sweet schott jacket that my dad bought 20 something years ago but its too hot for leather.

Finally, I am college kid and I dont want to buy something that is going to cost me a fortune.

Thanks,

Chris

I can only recommend what I know, based off my experience in AZ.

I have a First Gear Mesh-Tex 3.0 and love it. I have heard others with mesh jackets say even they are too hot in FL and areas as such.

A cooling vest under the mesh works excellent in the heat.

Id rather have heat rash than road rash.

Define the word "fortune". How much do you want to spend? You can get a very good mesh jacket for hot weather riding for under $100.

Old Enough to Close Out but New Enough to wear

100 is about what i would like to spend. if the difference (in terms of protection) between a $100 and $200 jacket isnt much i would rather go cheaper than flashier.

Default New enough .com

I just recently biught an Tourmaster Jacket from New Enough, and the service and price couldnt be better. First of All I ordered a Jacket and a pr of golves on Thurs. Friday afternoon the gloves were at my door and I recieved the Jacket today (monday). I chose the Tourmaster because it is 3 jackets in one. Hot weather mesh, waterproof/windproof liner, and an insulated liner which al zip out and are extreemly comfortable. I live in Texas and it was 95 degrees today and the mesh jacket was nice and cool as the wind goes right through it. It was like $170, which since its 3 jackets in one is a bargain..

For fit, you REALLY need to go to a few stores and try on different ones. My mesh jacket is a COMPLETELY different fit and size then my leather. Once you try them on and find one you like and offers what you are looking for, then and only then buy off line.

Just my 2 cents.

No, the Draft model isn't waterproof. For waterproof at the same price, check out their closeout section for the Joe Rocket Phoenix 4.0. You get two inserts with that one. BTW, I second the service at NewEnough. I called on Friday afternoon about 3PM central and the guy I spoke with couldn't have been more helpful. I checked Saturday and the order was shown as "shipped", but he had told me that I couldnt' get a tracking # until yesterday due to weekend. Got home from work at 3:50PM. Powered up the 'puter at 4:10 to check email. There was the tracking number. Clicked on the site to follow the package and it came up "DELIVERED AT 4:09PM". Got up, opened the garage door, and there it was.

ALSO I originally found the jacket at my dealer and tried it on there. I thought that Iwould need a 3x cause I'm tall but not OVERLY big and found that the armor sat too low on the shoulders thus offering no protection, but the 2X fit right but the sleeves and waist areas were too short. So the 2X Tall is what I went with. Plus in Joe Rockets Tall sizes you are stuck with STRICKLY solid BLACK. I talked to their CS and they gave a pretty lame excuse as why they don't and won't make Tall in anyother colors...

+1 to Parkinglot Pro

I got the Intake jacket like three weeks ago and the jacket is great. Those three position elastic straps on the arms are a brilliant idea because it lets you adjust the sleeves as you take out the layers. Another great feature for the mental midgets such as myself is that the straps that snap to hold the liners into the sleeves and jacket body are color coordinated--that way I can't confuse the straps. It so simple but it shows you that they really put a lot of thought into the jacket:

The jacket is warm during my morning commute in low 60* weather and I have kept the rain liner in so far during my ride home in the high 70's (took out the warm liner). The LG was $169 and for some reason, the MD was $129 and that one actually fit better so I saved $40 just because I'm short and fat!

I just ordered a Cortech jacket from motorcycle superstore. My neighbor is an avid rider and MSF instructor and he recommended this jacket and is the same one he wears.

Default Best place to by riding gear

Check out LeatherUp.com they have many styles of jackets, leather, Cordura and mesh. They also have the best prices that I've found anywhere. I bought a nice vented, Cordura jacket with armor and a zip out insulated liner for only $69. I also bought a nice pair of leather and mesh gloves for $19.00. They have some really nice riding boots also.

One of the best things about their site is the fact that they post customer reviews of the products, so you can find out what others say about a certain item before you buy. Order the right size, because if you have to return for an exchange you're looking at three weeks or so. On the other hand if you need to do an exchange, just return the item you want to exchange for a refund and purchase another as a new transaction. They ship out new orders in a couple of days VS the three weeks it takes them to do an exchange.

Good luck.
