Default River Road Pants

I'm looking into getting some pants. Does anyone have opions on this brand? Or what brand I should be looking at. I want to get some pants that fit over my other pants or shorts.
Thanks

It seems like you can't go wrong for getting some armor protection and heavy-duty nylon pants for only $29 - but in my opinion, "IF" you are looking for protection than please educate yourself on the reality of the protection you are getting. For instance, what is the abrasion rating of the nylon (Denier)? Nylon below 600 denier is subject to A) tearing very early in a slide and B) can have a low melting point and melt right into your skin. Second, if the pants fail by tearing, then the armor that is supposed to protect you will move or fall away and not be of much use. I hope this is helpful - I know the $ is alluring but be careful. I ride a cruiser and wear Shift Havoc pants - they are a combination of leather and 600 denier nylon (in minimum amount) and padded at the knees - BUT they are $179. Good luck in your search.

Yeah that's the part I wasn't so sure in. $ is right if they don't work....I don't wanna find out the hard way. So I should look for nylon above 600? All these pants say is heavy duty nylon. Thanks

I've not heard great things about River Road...but I'm afraid I don't recall specifics.

Avoid River Road. I'm using their 2-zippered Field boots currently, and they are so, so disappointing. Their other products may be different in quality, but based on their price, I would suspect otherwise.
I was just about to post about pants in another thread. I'll come back here and link it.

I have a leather jacket from River Road, and it is top notch.

I ordered river road textile pants and am very dissapointed in them, the crotch ripped out in less than 100 miles, very poor construction, the jacket on the other hand is just fine.

Just to clairify. The difference between 300 denier and 600 is that the 600 denier thread is twice as thick as the 300. This adds two things, thickness and abrasion resistance. Toward that end the 600 would be less likely to rip or melt during a skid. Of course there are a wide variety or variables in every mishap which is why there are no hard figures on clothing save one. Leather is best for abrasion resistance.

Now I'll let Rich L correct my science but I believe that 300 denier melts at 260dgF whereas 1200 denier would be up around 1800dgf. 300 to 600 is used for ripstop fabrics as it is pliable enough to be worked into clothing and is cost effective. Another item that affects the melting points are the blend and cores of the threads themselves. There are so many variables.

Buy the best you can afford at the time. Just think, you may want to add to your ride closet down the road a few thousand miles. Another chance to enhance the economy.

Be safe.
