Default need help with jacket.

I am new to motorcycles and new to this site. I have been watching for a few weeks now and finally decided to join. I am in the market for a jacket that is decently priced. I have found some nice cortech jackets online. They seem to have enough padding. I am a bigger guy and usually wear an xxl for a shirt size. Does anyone have an experience with jacket sizes? I dont know if they are too off from normal clothing sizes. Do not want to order the wrong size offline. I can get a much better price online then @ the dealer.

Thanks

Prob best advice you can get,
Go to your local biker gear shops, try on all they have to offer, see what fits, what you like, then go to newenough.com and find that jacket in that size and buy it from them.

NewEnough has sizing charts and a good return policy. If you're getting leather, get it a little tight instead of a little loose as it'll stretch. If it's loose, it'll stretch and bunch up. If it's a little tight it'll stretch and mold to your body.

For the budget minded try two sites.

Motorcycle & Leather Clothing Store - Motorcycle Jackets, Helmets, Biker Boots, Leather Pants & Chaps provides super discounted prices on a number of lines. You do get what you pay for, and more, but don't expect to match the quality and attention to detail of the premium lines . I will say, with that in mind, I get their premium items and have always been happy. I'm just now replacing the first pair of chaps, which weren't the "premium" side of their lines and that I messed up, with some from the next suggestion.

Motorcycler Leather Biz - Premium Motorcycle Leathers, Riding Gear and Biker Appare is a step above leatherup in most cases. At least from the website items and picutres of their stuff. So far I am really impressed with their customer service. I ordered one of their packages on the net last night and this morning recieved a call from the owner saying he was sorry but the jacket, in my, ah, larger size, was out of stock for 6 weeks. I told him to continue with the vest and chaps and to let me know when the jacket came in. He said he would make me a great deal. We talked about leather quality and biker clothing for a few minutes before I had to get back to work. Anyway, I thought it was nice of him to call, and if the quality of his stuff is as good as the quality of his customer service, he'll get to my favorites section.

I like Alpinestars, but their brand is on the pricey side. However, they make really high quality stuff. I used to go through a new jacket every year (I ride every day), but I bought a new Alpinestars 3 years ago and am still wearing the same jacket to this day! That is worth the money to me.

newenough and bikebandit.com are both good places to buy. Been around for years and I have had good service from both.

For Alpinestars I would buy one size bigger than you would normally wear as they are "European cut" and as a bigger guy I always have to buy a size bigger than their sizing charts say.

Enjoy your new jacket!

I love the Olympia AirGlide for summer/warmer weather riding. Without the liner it breaths great, has CE grade pading and a nice fit. For cooler weather, the liner in it works great. Then there is my leather. Studies have shown that leather protects your skin more than any other material for slides. Get the most you can afford. Don't go for name brands only. Like others above me stated, ask around your local area.

I've had the same problem. What I do is find a dealer and go there to try on the different sizes to see what fits best. Then I order that size on line to get the best price.

Find something you like online, then find a shop that stocks them. Then order online. Another thing, a size 46 in one brand is not always a 46 in another brand. Hell, I had 2 different Joe Rocket jackets that were 46's and one fit bigger than the other one. Pretty much all gear is this way. I have 2 different size boots, and some of my gloves are a large, while some are XL.

I wear a large for most upper body clothing, and both my Cortech leather and my Fieldsheer mesh jackets are size large and fit fine.
