Talking Novelty helmets

Hey everyone, this is my first post on here and I don't want to sound like a total newb (been riding for about 5 years now, so I sorta still am). But I gotta know who on here rocks the novelty helmets.

Here in Virginia where I live you have to wear a helmet at all times. I'm going to get a little Voss shell helmet to wear instead of the mushroom looking shorty I have now.

So, who else wears em?

Well, you HAVE to wear something in Virginia or you'll get a ticket. If I had the option, I would wear nothing.

You honestly think that not one person on here wears them?

While my wife says my head is as thick as a stone, I don't consider my noggin a "novelty"........so I personally will stick with a DOT approved helmet when I ride.

I think there might be a subtle clue buried way down deep in the name.

I sometimes wear mine, but only when I'm not going to get in an accident.

I'm not a big fan of helmets and so if I am gonna wear one I'll wear one that is dot approved. I'd bet that the law in your state mentions something about dot standers and the the novelty helmets don't satisfy the law.

Wear whatever you want, or don't wear anything. Why do you need validation from anyone here? Why not get a football helmet without the grill on the front like in Easy Rider?

I don't get the appeal when there are DOT approved half helmets out there. I mean, as long as you have to wear one anyway, why would you not want some protection?

They ride lower on your head so it doesn't look like you have a damn mushroom growing off the top of it.

Don't understand the appeal? I guess I don't understand the appeal of spending thousands of dollars on your bike to make it look good just to look like a wheenie riding it.

That's a great idea man. Why didn't I think of that?

I'm sorry to tell you that any "wheenie" problems you might have can't be fixed by a helmet.

So here's the deal.
DOT helmet. Period.
A few years ago I held a kid's broken head in my hands and his brain was leaking through my fingers. I'm no weenie, but I cried on that one.
Get a decent lid, man.

Check out the carbon fiber DOT approved helmets. They are pricey but don't have that mushroom look. I want one myself but it'll have to wait.

+100% on that. And don't be put off by some of the guys on here. You've a right to your opinionas they do. Unfortunately some guys just feel they need to stress they're opinion with insults. Makes me wonder if they're overcompensating for something.

I ride for me not for anyone else. I'd be more concerned about what I'd look like after I get cut off in traffic and go down. Protect yourself!
