I never really noticed how many drivers here in AZ were on the road talking on their cell phones until I started riding again. It's insane. I'm constantly wary of them since I've seen a couple weave into other lanes because they are so distracted. I wish I was exhaggerating. They are just in their own little world practically driving on auto pilot.
And if people just aren't paying attention, it really won't matter what color your helmet is. |

I truly believe helmet color matters. It does not necessarily have to be white IMHO. As long as it is bright enough I think it is even more visible than a bright color riding jacket. Your head is the highest point of your body.

I got behind a guy wearing a white helmet the other day and made a special point to pay attention to it. Honestly, the white helmet did not stick out any more than a helmet of a different color. It's too neutral. It blended in with his gray jacket and black bike into a uniform blob. Unless you go with an all white getup, I honestly don't think a white helmet will hold any benefit over most other colors. If you want visibility, go with something florescent.

![]() ![]() ![]() I don't know about that. Lots of bikes here in the mountains of NC, and my head always snaps when I see that new light bright green that people are wearing in jackets. I think Olympia has one out. I personally switched from a black Imax to a green one and I saw it at the first stop sign: guy visibly snapped his head when I came into his vision. Thing was, it was on my route to work, and we were in synch here many times. Never saw him do that before! The helmet that was safety orange is a different story. Shoei had one out years ago that would pop in a big way, I think it was the Blaze. I'd love an orange helmet. Next is a canary yellow. Funny, the chrome domes (I have one of those also) are next to invisible to me. You would think that the light reflects amd blinds people, but it doesn't. But I am sorry, red and black, I don't see it much, even though I wear it myself. And I am looking for motorcyclists, and know that they wear them in those colors, but I just don't notice the helmet. Sorry. Last edited by gpzrocker : 08-17-2008 at 03:54 AM. |

Like an idiot, when I bought my V2k in december I bought 2 black HJC modulars for my wife an I as they didnt have red ones. Then I read that black is the worst color for a helmet... I found some 1.25X5 inch reflective stickers and put them around the back and sides, I am sure it helps some at least at night. My wife since bought the Scorpion EXO 700 you guys show in the pics, very nice helmet and fairly visible. I feel the single best thing a motorcyclist can do to enhance visibility is to install driving lights and leave them on full time. I am amazed at how much more visible our bikes are now... from the front only of course.

I really don't care about the studies. If you are not out breaking the speed limit or traffic laws you are invisible. I wear black and ride like everyone is out to kill me. It's worked for 35 years.

Lime green bike helps, I got a bright KBC VR-2, Green M2R, My Icon Mesh jacket is yellow, but my leather is black with green trim. Peeps in cars dont pay attention no matter what color you wear.

I own 7 helmets, from flat black to chrome, but the one I wear most often is my Caliper pearl white helmet with reflective trim. It's cooler and IMHO more visible, although I've had a lot of comments about my chrome helmet too on a sunny day as NASA has picked me up on radar a couple of times.
