Default Anyone wear chaps?

With cooler/colder weather heading this way, I need something that will keep the chill off of my legs. I've been looking at a pair of chaps that have a snap out quilted lining. I've also found a pair of quilted-lined chaps that the liner is not removeable....for about $60 less. Anyone out there use anything like this and how well do they work? I doubt I'd wear the chaps other than the cooler times of the year.

I wear chaps in the winter...I go the at bike show in NYC. They are not lined just leather, zip up the side with 3 snaps on the bottom. The work very well over jeans, never had a problem with being cold, the leather cuts the wind and that what you really need.

I wear chaps when the weather calls for them. I bought good quality leather chaps, but never felt the need for a liner. After wearing chaps for years, It would be my opinion that a snap out liner could become PITA.

The silk liners are for the lady's, because sometimes they wear them with out pants, or with shorts I mean.

Leather really cuts the wind. Probably just the fact that its one big piece ( no seams to leak air) is beneficial. But i find on these high humidity days, nothing cuts the chill. I keep adding more layers just in case tho...

I wear my chaps below 40degrees. Unlined but work well in keeping out the cold. I have an extra large pair for sale.

I wore leather pants with no liner over jeans that were okay, but heavy. I still tended to layer up underneath. I now have a really light pair of textile pants that I wear over just jeans and no liner and am much warmer than I ever was in the leather+jeans+thermal underwear.

Cool

I wear em on the highway and in cooler weather. I also like to have em for rainy days. Can't remember the last time I had to wear rain pants because the chaps do a great job of keeping the legs dry as well as warm.

40 and under is my cut-off... lined leather chaps is perfect for me. The lining is not quilted or insulated, just to keep the raw leather off your pants in case it gets wet and bleeds colour... but I find they work perfectly.

Thing I notice is, whatever part of your body is coldest will get the most attention. If you take care of your legs with chaps, you'll notice your face gets cold. Take care of your face, you notice your hands... etc. My legs are never the problem with chaps...

And I went with chaps because a buddy of mine wears leather pants and doesn't like the fact that when he gets where he's going, he stuck with what he's wearing, at least you can take chaps off!

During the colder months I wear the HT 2.0 pants that go with my First Gear Kilimanjaro jacket. Other than those times I wear chaps whenever I ride. It only takes one rock, the size of a pin head, hitting your jean covered shin or knee while riding at any decent highway speed to make you say things aloud to no one and desperately try to "rub that hurt away", while maintaining forward motion. Chaps are a cheap answer to the "road crap" and/or bug slamming problem. Leather or textile overpants are great for long rides in cooler weather and the proper set up like I have with my cold gear can let you keep the separate rain gear at home, saving you space.

Bottom line. Buy some chaps

+1 on the impact and wind protection, as well as the "take 'em off when ya get there" concept. My fiance did her first couple of rides in jeans, and was noticing a chill.. got her chaps for her bd, and she's agreeing fully.. they're worth the price. Look for thicker leather, good quality stitching, and at least one pocket.. usually it's a pain to get into your jeans pockets (front) once you've got them on. Parking meters.. bah.

After being cold on my commute in to work last week, I bought a pair of chaps, with a quilted removable liner this weekend. They were great this morning.

This morning my neck was cold......

Carhartt insulated coveralls work great too. I have a really nice set of chaps, that fit me well, and I would rather wear the coveralls.

That is the weather phenomenon associated with the beautiful mountains and high country that you have none of. Air so clean and fresh you can actually breathe it.Trees, real trees, not the plastic or palmetto ones you guys have in Florida are every where. You should buy some clothes other than flip-flops and bermuda shorts and come up here and experience it. I guarantee it will change you life.
