Default Throttle Mod

The Teryx has a very sensitive throttle and the position of the pedal doesn't allow use of the dog-house to help stabilize your foot ... preventing surges when you hit bumps. Some people just slap a piece of 2X4 near the pedal ... others buy an extended aftermarket pedal for several hundred dollars ... I would rather build my own.

The 5/16 rod gives the side of my foot support to stop bouncing up and down on the pedal, but its angle allows my foot to slide down easily for the smile factor.

Good tip!
Yesterday saw a guy with a khaki shirt and white helmet on a cruiser at an onramp, parked tight by a traffic signpost. Thought he might be having trouble, so slowed, he didn't look around, I tapped the bike horn (I almost NEVER use it!)
Then I saw the shoulder patch, "CHP". OOPS! Grinned, gave him the 4 sign, he laughed. Fun things just happen when you go ride!
Be safe.

One of the two tickets I ever got was from a CHP. Was on Old Oregon Trail close to Dana St. He wasn't grinning though (neither was I)

This Teryx is a real kick, but when hitting rough spots, making your foot bounce on that throttle, it makes for an interesting ride.

Playing in the garage is always fun for me, Rich.

Tickets aren't funny!
It happens sometimes though.
I built a Ford GT40 replica and opened it up on Hwy44 going East.
Chp saw me fly by at approx 140 and climbing.
Evidently he radioed ahead and a black 'n white greeter was waiting in Palo Cedro. OOPS.
I should have known better, can't outrun the radio.
I've mellowed since...
BTW, thats a great looking ride on your avatar!

Thanks, I do like my bike.

It is hard to outrun the Motorola, maybe you should have ducked off 44 onto Stillwater Rd?

I lived on Stillwater near 44 and with my old junkers back then I had to stay on the back roads just so they wouldn't inspect my car.

Hey Lobocop...
I didn't try to outrun the Motorola, was just dumb and full of testosterone back then. The officer was courteous and I paid my dues. I have a lot of respect for the guys who are doing that job.
I eventually ended up training CHP, County coppers and Redding PD on computer apps. Never met a bad apple in the bunch.

Stillwater and 44 is still famous for T-bones!
When I get my Kawi really happy will be setting up a run to Susanville, perhaps Reno.
We are greatful that the smoke is diminishing around here, it's been pretty ugly.

Hey Lobocop,
Uh oh.
I just looked at the map.
Have you taken the ride around the lake?
395 to 50 and then the tour?
IYOP, What are the good spots to stop for food and lodging?
I like to fly to Greenville, but the Incline Village run looks like a fun way to spend some road time in the late fall...
Your thoughts on that?
"4".

The ride around the lake is pretty, but the peak tourist months can make that ride a total nightmare with traffic. Late fall brings snow/ice to the lake area frequently.

If coming down 395 I would suggest turning off at Hwy 70 (just North of Reno), going to Graeagle, then heading towards Tahoe on Hwy 89. Much nicer ride with beautiful scenary. Stop for food in Graeagle. You can drop off the hill onto 395 to Carson or Reno on three different highways from there.

If you are heading towards Reno/Carson/Tahoe let me know and maybe we can meet up.

I am a statistic from that intersection, myself

Went to High School with the current Chief of Redding PD, good friend just ran for Shasta County Sheriff (didn't make it), brother is COP of Orland PD and have many friends over there still. Love the area and its nice to go home when the time allows ... as long as it isn't in the summer heat

Thanks. Tested it out on some whoopti-doos and it works rather well. Best part is it only cost me an hour of time and some scrap steel that I had laying around.

Mr Handy Man is at it again.

It looks like a custom piece Ken. I'm surprised Kawisaki didn't think of that.

Probably some stupid "nanny law" liability concern over someone catching their toe on it in an accident.

Working up in Bishop last February, saw an ad on TV from an attorney looking for "victims" of crashes of the Rhino who had arm or leg injuries.
The 2008 Rhinos now have DOORS, and a retrofit kit is available for 2007 and older models for free.
The difference between the Rhino design and the Kawi/Polaris/other utility quads is the others have a small area at the base of the door that will help to retain a foot inside unless your heel is pulled almost all the way back to the seat. The Rhino had very little coverage in that area.

But in a rollover, I don't think even the DOOR is going to keep your legs inside.

The Rhino is a good rig, but its wheel base is narrow in comparison to the Teryx and the foot positions/cab design with the Rhino left the feet prone to just sliding out with steep angles or on roll overs. The sharks have since surrounded Yamaha looking for the class action ... action.

The Teryx, being wider, is much more stable and the design of the cab keeps your feet inside and protected. The Teryx can still be rolled over, but it is typically due to operator error or negligence.

Ya, part of the undoing of the Rhino was one of it's main selling points.... it could be loaded into the back of a pickup.
