    Default 86 Ninja 1000R Exhaust?

    HI everybody!
Pipes are going on the ninja and I was wondering if anyone has fitted a set of aftermarket pipes on theirs.
I am also interested in finding out if a system meant for another bike (ie. ZX6R/RR 03-04) will fit or how much modifications are needed....
I know that I can get a set from Vance and Hines but they arent the best to look at for the price.
BTW Love the site and although I dont do a lot of posting, I love to read and I have managed to ressurect my ZX with the info found on this site.

( I found a set of pipes for the ZX6R/RR 03-04 for a steal but I would like to know before i buy...
    Thanks!

Hindle, years ago made a header pipe and silencer for your bike.
I have that basic set up on mine with the exception of the mid pipe and outlet which are for a Gpz1100. It is 2 1/2 dia. and allows for a very low pitch from the exhaust at idle up to about 4500rpms. Afterwards it sounds like the devil itself.

Anyways, I'm not sure how much you are going to find for the 1000r stock from a pipe supplier.
Perhaps it would be best to purchase a silencer and build it?

I can promise you NO newer exhaust system is going to work. the newer bikes have the engine slanted forward more, and it wont work. Concours pipes will work. I"ve personally got a kerker, Yoshi, and stock system for my bikes. no way I'll sell my yoshi, since its THE only one I've seen like it in my life, ever. the kerker, yeah, first chance I get.

I got the same bike btw. they're cool machines, just a bit of a PITA to work on sometimes. but its a labor of love, so I live with the pain.

Ideally, I would like to find a good set of slip-ons.....seemed to be quite popular for a while, now i cant find anything that works. Does anyone know if a set of slip-ons from something else will do the trick or what....

Cobra used to sell the "F1" slip on.
    Try them yet?

Look for some Kerker slipons for a Concours 1000. I've got those on mine right now. I've also got a kerker 4:1 header that I'll sell. you'll need to figure out oil lines, I havent gotten that far with it.

Otherwise, ZG1000 slipon pipes will work. same engine, different transmission/final drives.

I have a Yoshi 4 into 1 on mine. It is suppose to fit with no mod's but that is not quit true. The oil line had to be bent just a little and the back half of the pipe has to be removed to change the oil filter. After 20+ years the oil line has started to leak so I will have to figure out something also. I would go with slip-on if you can find some. Like lawn master said the the 86 concours and the ZX 1000 are basically the same bike so see if you can some for the concours. I will be searching the web for some stuff for mine, I will post if I see anything. Good luck.

My bike was fitted with stainless flex oil lines due to the
header etc. Plus, they look cool but are hidden from view once the plastics are installed.

Yup. the ZX900A series, ZG1000, I think the earlier ZX11's and maybe another bike or two share the same engine block basically, so you may be able to get an exhaust from one of those to work.

My Yoshi 4:1 works fine with the stock lines and no bending involved, I just dont know which set of jets goes with it honestly, since I've got a set of 138's and a set of 140's, plus dynojet needles, and I'm just not sure what goes with what. think I know, but not going to experiment until I've at least got a good baseline figured out for it all.

may, I'm not sure though. a good idea is to know the outer diameter of your pipes where the mufflers slip onto before buying anything. I havent looked at mine yet.
