Is this the KE, KD or KH model?
Some of the old enduros don't need a battery, some do.
To my knowledge, the f7 is points, not CDI. I think the only one of that breed that got the CDI was the 96+ KE100. Just eliminate the possiblity and put a battery in it. The one I bought for the KE100 was $17, yours can't be much more. I'm pretty sure it's 6V.

If that doesn't do it, check your points, they're probably covered in crap.

I'm 90% sure this is an oil injection bike, so make sure that's working before you go anywhere with it. If it's smokin' it's working.

Make sure it's got decent gas and 2t oil in it (tank is under the seat if it is oil injection), clean the carb (I think it's under the right side engine case cover) and you probaby want to inspect the air filter before you go kicking it again.

Great bikes considering that they shouldn't be. Wish they still made 'em.

One more thing, these guys know more about this bike than anyone else I've encountered. KEowners : Kawasaki KE Owners
The postings are rather sparse, either the bike's running great or it's not, fortunately, there's very little "not running" time.

$40 is a steal, even if you can't get it running, resale as a project bike is probably worth double that. Resale as a basket case maybe $200?

Good luck.
